Buying cannabis clones through the mail now?

I've recently become aware that a lot of the seed companies are now selling cannabis clones through the mail, like Homegrown Cannabis Co and Seedsman.

I've read it's because starting November 2026 it'll be harder to ship seeds through the mail, but there's some kind of loophole about sending clones through the mail.

I saw one site sells clones that are 8-10" tall, but also "teens" which they said were already 18-24" tall.

So they're sending like a full cannabis plant through the mail now?

How do these clones even survive the trip? I know I once ordered a bamboo plant through the mail, and it came with its roots wrapped up in gel or something, and then the whole plant was wrapped up. And I guess that plant was fine. But it seems like cannabis clones are waaaaay more sensitive than bamboo.

I don't know if this is a good company, but I wanted to give credit that I got this picture from "Marijuana Clones Online" as far as how their clones are packaged for mail.

How many of these cannabis clones through the mail actually survive? What's about bugs or pathogens.

I've seen better packaging for shipping clones,even comes with a little light to keep the plants alive, usually sent express mail

Wow that's crazy, the pictures I've seen all have the clones wrapped up and shipped in the dark. I didn't realize some people were sending them with light. I wonder if that increases survival rates?

Clones have been available by mail for years. Have never ordered any but there are lots of companies offering them. Proper packaging and express delivery and they do fine.

I did not know that. I just noticed that the seed companies I've been using all seem to be selling clones through the mail now. It had never even occurred to me to look to buy clones online. But it makes sense.

Looks like Seedman is selling clones by mail now. If their clones are from their seeds that will be like a box of chocolates for sure

HGCC is just a reseller of United Strains of America for their THCA products & clones. ILGM just added USOA THCA products as well.

I've noticed a lot of the the clones seem to be THCA hemp and not real weed. Does this actually matter to anyone? is there a real difference? I also see lots of prices around $ 55-60 for a single clone. My plan was just to wait for the end of summer and stock up on seeds, that way I'll have a cpls yrs worth and can always make more. Any farther out than that and I wont be able to grow anymore

THCa is the acidic form of THC and is what is present in the plant. It becomes THC when you heat it. All weed plants are THCa.
I think that’s probably the loop hole they are exploiting because law makers don’t know shit about what they are regulating they just know how to make laws. Like the original farm bill that left all the room for hemp derived cannabinoids to be sold unregulated as they all came from plants with less than 0.3% THC but they just grew fields of plants and extracted whatever they wanted including THC

That’s an interesting point.
I’m lucky to be up here in Canada where it’s fully legal. Mind you We still have dumb laws like clones are just starting to be legal province by province even though we legalized in 2018.
My understanding of what looks to be coming for my American cousins in November is they’ve used wording something like the seed is illegal if it has potential to grow a plant whose content is over 0,3% THC . Where as they used to get though because even kick ass genetics don’t contain any significant amount in the seed.
Which brings us back to wondering why that same law wouldn’t include those clones whose potential would clearly be over 0.3%

Why pay $55 - $60 for a single clone, unless it is guaranteed to be some ultra rare super strain?
Mail order nurseries mail out plants all the time, from orchids and the phenomenal Amorphophallus titanum to common houseplants - and I have ordered such in the past, receiving perfectly healthy plants.
In the egregiously commercial USA, you can find a business willing to sell anyone anything for the right price (making your money their money).
Yet, we all have our preferences. For the same cost and some very, very basic knowledge, from seeds you can get results like in the pic (sativa photos getting ready for outdoor garden).
But what do I know? I am a simple, retired dude who grows pounds of the stuff for fun.

Yeah, making clones are free except the cost of the seed, compared to $50/clone to buy one online. Or just buy seeds and even the most expensive seeds don't cost $50 each.

I think clones must just be people who are in such a hurry they literally don't even want to wait for seeds to germinate. Or if there is some super rare cut, like you said. Those seem like the only really good reasons to choose clones over seeds TBH.

Otherwise, it seems like you're just introducing the chance of bugs and diseases in the grow room, when a seed is almost as fast (possibly faster if the clones need time to recover). And seeds can be stored for years, and cost less than $20 each for even rare strains.

All the ones i saw were nothing special, i couldn't justify spending that kind of cash on a clone. Also a retired dude who found this site and read EVERYTHING on it. 1st grow i used the shotgun method of planting seeds so something HAD to grow

This looks like another solution in search of a problem. Maybe just marketing. It still makes no sense to me. Why buy what you can make for nothing? Also, I would be very cautious about pests hitch hiking with the clones. When I setup my grow I try to keep it as "sterile" as possible. Growing from seeds is the best way to help this goal. Once something leaves my tent it never comes back inside for this same reason.

Gotta agree with ductwizard2. Buy seeds vs. clones and put the savings toward pots, grow medium, nutes, etc.

Clones are my favorite way to grow from a strain that i love. Starts as a seed and i take clones in the first week of 12/12 or a week before i flip. I'd never buy clones way to expensive and iffy/healthy. The tent pic has my 6wk of flower plants and i cloned my RS-11 on the right. The other is a Blue Dream who's yellowing up quick now. I use the clones i make to trade/barter with local folks. I just love growing these plants.

your clones look a lot more healthy than the ones i've seen for sale, even the expensive ones looked stretchy and sad. I would do them if i get a strain i like and had the gear

Clones are like icing on the cake..got 4 in the mater tent3 Jackie freeborn and one suplex. Would not speed good money on trying them too$ these girls will be the outside grow.
