Yeah that's about it. push the net down to the shortest, then a little more, then bend and spread everything. The longer stems get bent 90* and interwoven in the net. It looks brutal when you are doing it, just don't break off the stems, grin and be brave. The idea is to have as many buds directly exposed to the light as possible. I usually do a defol at day 21, but it can be done sooner if needed. You have some dense bush there that needs to be cut back especially in the center, very dense. Keep the air flow open at the bottom of the plant and strip off larf buds unless you are using side lighting.

I manifold and LST. I use those flexi rubber twisties with wire in them...which works great for keeping it flat and spread out, until it stretches.

So when it stretches its hard to control the plant from underneath, that's where the net comes in. So I wait fir the stretch to be pretty much done then lower the net and place colas into the gaps so they stay nicely spread for light and ventilation...I try and keep it up as high as I can because it helps to support the colas as they get heavy and I run out of yoyos with buds falling over mid to late flower.

Others do it differently to me and it all seems to work pretty well.

When you're bending a branch that isn't very flexible, if you rub the spot you want it to bend at between your thumb and index finger reasonably firmly and then give it a little squish it helps with making it bend without snapping....

The rubbing squishing and bending us for supercropping which may be needed if you are running out of height. Its pretty stressful and I would use that unless I'm going to run out if room.


Some use the net to control height. I only really use it to control spacings

Update: The stretch is finally over or just about over. Can I get some guidance on further defoliation? I gave a haircut on June 29 as that was about 3 weeks into the stretch. I know I left a few buds down low. I'll do better next time. It's a little dark below the canopy but before the haircut there wasn't any light down there. I'm not pleased with the net and the way I place it. But I will be doing this again. I tried the splat but those tallest buds would not bend, too woody and I didn't want to super-crop them. I've learned a few things along the way. Just for appearances, I don't like how the middle of the plant never caught up with the tallest buds. But I do like the biggest buds. Light is at half power about 15-16" above the canopy. I have a few inches of height adjustment left if necessary. PPFD runs from 850 -1150 depending on where I place the meter. EC is 1.9 Temps high is 80 low is 72. RH is low 50's high end and high 40's low end. PH rez is 5.5-5.6 and tray PH is 5.8-5.9. At week six of flower I'll cut off base nutrients for a week. She'll get a week of CX Bloom Enhancer at 5-7ml per liter for a PK boost.

If it were mine I would clean out a little more in the center and at the bottom. Keep the air circulation going in the center of the plant. The net could be a little lower if you can get it down, if not no worries. As far as those tall branches, leaving them will give tall large buds, bending them down will give more smaller buds. Depends on what you want. Smaller buds have less chance of getting bud rot. Larger buds look better. It will all be ground up anyway right? If you bend them and they kink like a plastic straw that is ok, just leave them and weave the end into the net. So long as they don't break clean off you are good. They will repair themselves. The more even the canopy is the more efficient the light is, less chance of burning the top tall buds and the lower not having enough light. Are you keeping notes for yourself for the next time? Pour on the light, keep the air flow high, temps and humidity lower, and watch the grass grow. Try not to over love them. Looking real good.

Thx Ckbrew I will work on cleaning out the middle and bottom. I'll try and lower the net. I don't want bud rot...so those long and tall buds are kind of disappointing. I prefer medium size flowers. I understand about the light exposure, makes sense. Yes, I've kept notes, not one of my strengths. I hear ya about loving her to death. My routine for her is check in at lights on, make any adjustments necessary, measure PH and PPFD and then let her grow.

Update. I gave her a small defoliation. I tried to clean out the middle and lower growth. I hate cutting off buds so there will be a little popcorn. I lowered the net about 6" and tried to weave the buds so they aren't sharing space. I added a fan to blow up through the canopy. I think that helped the air circulation. The tallest 3 buds are 15". The next 2 tallest are 13". The flowers are fattening up and the sativa pheno is showing. If I remember right the A5 is about a 80/20 sativa hybrid. Next week she'll begin the 6th week of flower. That calls for a PK boost with nothing but unPH'd Bloom Enhancer and Head Masta. After 7 days she'll go back on base nutrients and regular dose of Bloom Enhancer and Head Masta until harvest. She is in great shape I'm hoping for a phat, snowy finish.

Update: My how things change. Couple days after the last update I noticed part of the plant was lime green. Fed her nutrients steadily increasing in strength until it was time to start the PK load at the 6th week of flower when I cut off base nutrients and increase the Bloom nutrients from 10ml/L to 60ml/L for 7 days. I felt like I wasn't making much progress with the underfeeding. I was nervous about the color and then had leaves wilting, falling off with yellow in the veins and brown spots. All indicating under feeding.

I'm not positive I should have done so, but I paused the PK load 24 hours into it to dose her with some stronger base nutrients and cal/mag and dimmed the lights. She got 48oz over the course of 24 hours. She started back on the PK load today. Color seems to be better.

The sick plant guide on the GWE web site was spot on (no pun intended) with helpful information. Also, learned that MJ grown in autopots may be more sensitive to light stress than the same strain being grown another way.

Still hoping for a phat finish and plentiful harvest.

Your plant setup for the manifold and grow is pretty much the same as I do, but your stretch is much much more which can be a real challenge. You also trim more leaves from the canopy. My canopy leaf coverage won't let light through to the floor. I leave on as much leaf as I can.

Update: She finished the PK load. And has continued to lose leaves. She went back on base nutrients 23ml/L along with the Bloom Enhancer and Head Masta. EC is 1.9. PH in the tray is 5.9. Phin the rez is 5.6. Temps 80F lights on 70F lights off. RH 45% lights on and 45% down to about 40% lights off.

She's not as sparkly as I'd like to see at this point. I'm wondering if the apparent lack of nutrients contributed toward that. I'm hoping the flowers continue to fatten up, they usually bulk up after the bloom load, so fingers crossed.
