Albany County here. Was thinking of starting a wildflower type garden for generations of self pollinating landrace strain And was curious if anyone had tried or thought of trying in effort to create a NYS landrace strain. If that makes any sense

As far as I know, there are no canibis strains that grow here naturally, which would be a landrace strain, like Kush, comes from the Kush mountain region in the middle east

The only North American landrace strains come from Mexico. Hawai'i isn't North American, but they have a few. Hemp is another story.
You can't create a landrace and once a landrace strain is grown in other than its natural environment, it is like Cuban cigars in the US: The seeds came from Cuba but were grown elsewhere.

I'm not upstate and only grow indoors due to renting an apartment but in the lower Hudson Valley/Tri-State area. Always willing to discuss topics with "local" growers in the New England area.
Started being scammed by www.lush.garden grow kit (Thankfully no longer doing business & link to parent company)
            Currently using:
AC Infinity 2x2x6 tent, 2x2 LED light, Controller 69 Pro,
T3 humidifier, CLOUDRAY S6, Gen 2, Cloudray S9 pair & Terraform control unit (AC/heat/dry/vent) Not in use currently.

My thought was to throw some random seed into a field I have previously prepared to just let grow wild on their own and see if they self pollinate and reproduce next season and so on. Just let nature do she thing with background observations and help among the way. Than wondering what would be like 20 years from now for example

Sounds like an interesting project. One drawback would be if anyone is growing outdoors near your patch your males could pollinate their grow.
