What's the best seed bank for good cannabis genetics?

I made a post yesterday about the best LED grow lights for growing weed, and got some interesting responses. I've noticed on this forum what people say matches my experience more than what I read on Reddit or other grow forums.

Yesterday, Gator said a lot of LEDs for weed are the same. I feel like that seems true as long as you get the right size and wattage to match your space. With the possible exception of a few cannabis-focused brands like Electric Sky and HLG, which maybe are actually different. But even with those "superior" LED grow lights, I think skill and setup matters more than the particular LED brand, or even type of grow light. Like I used to use HPS grow lights, and have switched to LEDs, and they're different to "use" but the weed at the end seems pretty much the same. Essentially whatever the seed genetics told it. So I think the importance on finding the "BEST" LED is maybe overstated.

I have found that cannabis genetics are huge to results. WAY more important than the grow light. Anyone who's grown very different strains together in the same setup can attest to that. Like I've grown completely different buds in the same tent. One's strong and dense, the other wispy and weak. I feel like genetics matter so much.

But what about cannabis seed banks? Are they all the same for the most part?

I'm not too sure about this.I definitely think there is a ton of difference in genetics between breeders (like Barney's Farm vs Square One Genetics for example), but if you get seeds of a particular strain from a particular breeder, it seems like all the seed banks are pretty much the same except for like the seed ordering experience, and customer service with seed replacements and billing questions. Like you can sum a seed bank down to: selection, seed freshness, payment options, and customer service (including like how fast they respond, and how easy to work with).

Do you think there's a seed bank that consistently has better cannabis genetics, like maybe more curated? Or maybe any seed banks where the seeds are more "fresh" and germinate better than others?

I feel like that's hard for just one grower to test, who only orders seeds once or twice a year.

I have heard getting from the breeder directly is often the best choice, and I do want to do that, but often I want to grow a bunch of different strains from different breeders. I think it's more fun and exciting that way (sometimes an adventure), and you get a greater variety between the resulting buds. So I kind of want to find the best seed bank that carries multiple breeders. Better yet if they actually treat the breeders well.

Do you agree genetics matter more than equipment? Does it matter which seed bank you order from, or just the strain/breeder?

tl;dr: Besides the strain/breeder, does the particular seed bank actually matter?

P.S. Just to be clear, I've been happy with all my orders so far from the GrowWeedEasy best cannabis seed banks list:
    • Seed Supreme – Florida, United States
    • ILGM (I Love Growing Marijuana) – California, United States
    • MSNL (Marijuana Seeds Netherlands) – Amsterdam seed bank now ships from US, Canada & UK
    • North Atlantic Seed Co. – Maine, United States
    • Seedsman – Ships from US & Europe
I just like hearing from other home growers, too. It's always good to learn about new cannabis seed sources, especially in today's crazy seed legal environment.

Hey MeowMeow, I gotta say the seed bank counts alot. only use reputable, proven vendors. 2 years ago I bought from a fly by nite dealer and they charged the wifes debit card $500 on a sports betting site, when contacted their response was pretty much " sux to be you", reputation matters to legit biz's

You may be right about 'best' LED light for cannabis. But consider that the light is the plant's food, not the nutrients or the grow medium. Without light there is no photosynthesis, right? But, a great lamp will not automatically grow good weed. That's where environment and genetics enter the picture. But environment and genetics will not overcome a weak lamp. IMHO.

Seed banks used to be more risky than they are now. If you buy your seeds from a USA based seed bank and breeder then you're most likely to get the freshest seeds they have. If your chosen seed supplier is in another country they may not have their whole seed catalog available in the USA or wherever you may be growing weed. Genetics are important. If you look at the seed bank Nebula recommends they all provide good genetics. you most likely won't go wrong using any of them.

I like Ace seeds. Their genetics are top shelf. The proof is in the results. Based in Spain their entire catalog is not available in the USA. So I used the European supplier Ace recommended. What I think is silly are all of the so-called strains. Each with their own expression, aromas, terpenes, taste, etc. What is happening to cannabis is too much inbreeding. That's part of the issue with genetics. Where do the parent plants come from? Weak parents make weeks seeds. I have found a few seed banks that I like measured by the metrics in your post.

I think the seed bank matters. I like to do business with companies that install confidence and treat people with respect. If they are reputable they will have good C/S. A company can have the best selection, prices, genetics etc with reputation for $hitty service and I wouldn't buy anything from them. I'll pay a little more for friendly service.

I've had good results from Royal Queen Seeds and seed Supreme in the past as well as a breeder on another forum. I agree though that modern hybrids have been too heavily bred and kinda seems all the same. So I'm starting to experiment with some landraces from The Real seed co. Looking forward to growing some pure sativas from Thailand and Africa as well as some Cretan and Nepalese.

ILGM has the best genetics hands down but they’re the most expensive choice.

As far as LED’s go, don’t fall for the bs! They’re all made using mostly the same material. I’m currently using a cheap Szhlux light I bought on Amazon and it’s producing bud the same quality as my Electric Sky’s which were much more expensive.

Well yeah the seed bank definitely matters. Some are white label ripoff and some sell legit genetics from the sources. Lotta fun in experimenting. North Atlantic, multiverse, hembre are ones I've used in the USA. Always sealed breeder packs and generous freebies. As far as genetics. In house, solfire, relentless, ethos, Mephisto, night owl, fisherman, seed junky, ace, rocbud......um.. me.
