I was reading something that helped clarify some issues with removing leaves. We know we should remove some at some point!
"In botany, most plants benefit from pruning up to 25% of the leaves." Think about all the yard work this spring... lots of trimming hedges, mowing grass, and limbing trees. All those actions seem to promote MORE growth.
Plants seem to "know" that somewhere in their lives they will lose some leaves due to herbivores or physical damage (hail, wind, branches falling, etc..) so they make extra leaves, more than they actually need in preparation for damaging events.
I was thinking the other day "well a little deer came by and munched off this leaf, that leaf, and a few down there" lol
Gave my girls a fighting chance that way .

Yeah, it certainly helps lower humidity. No worries in taking shaded leaves and lollipopping, but I took too many good leaves last time. I seem to enjoy cutting things off of the plants. I take all of the growth tips that I know I don't want as soon as it is possible. I get a little excited when I see one I can cut.
That said, my Jack Herrer is the bushiest little plant I have dealt with and I can't seem to get myself to cut many leaves off of her. She basically needs it at this point.

Campesino I’m going to go more for the idea of humidity control pruning with a bit of bud based but not much. The really obvious one I’ll take. I think just taken a bit off for humidity will open up the budsites enough. For whatever reason I get nervous on the defol scared I’m going to take off too much. Doesn’t help that whenever I’m pruning my wife asks why I’m butchering the plants again.

It comes out at 7.5-7.7 most often 7.6 but I’ve noticed if we get a real heavy rain it’s drifts up to 7.7 for a bit after. Ppm are about 145 though. The raw silica I add raises it to about 7.9, 1/2 dose of the flowering nutes brings that down to 6.5 3/4 6.3 full 6.0. I’ve been doing my reg watering day 6.5 I have to use quite a bit ph down about a tbsp for four gallons I think. I have it written in my notebook, I think that’s right. Maybe I’ll try higher 6’s. Kind of shocked me on coming out the same last three waterings have been that way, they were coming out about 6.8 no matter what I put in (always 6.3-6.6). All of a sudden they started coming out what was put in, AIs are doing this too. Only thing I can think of is plants used up all the ffof stuff and the buffering stuff got flushed out from watering to runoff.

Great looking hub. Nice to have things come out the same as they go in. Just curious... what's your well water ph at normally? I have great water where I am on a well also. I kept using ph down in my reg watering just to keep things level. My reg watering for the last 4 weeks I didn't add ph down and everything is still coming out nuetral. My water phd at 7.0 which from my understanding is the high for soil, but I read an article about wild cannabis plants liking more acidic soil activity. With flowering nutes my water phd 5- 5.7 so phd up to nuetral twice and did my 7.0 reg watering. And it's still holding a nuetral balance...just some food for thought. I think that ffof gets sensitive later weeks of flower in my experiences. Btw my plants have looked better since I stopped reg watering at nuetral think it was a little deficiency imo combined with lights too close.

Yeah, I am going to scale back considerably. See if I can notice a difference, but probably too many things are going to be different.
Alas, one of the differences between by GG4s that we were discussing may have been degree of defol. The plant that turned out the best got the least (I think).

Thanks. Those pics are after I did a little pruning, they were getting pretty bushy. I’ll be doing another run at them right about day 21, day 15 for the big tent and 18 for little tent. I don’t think I’ll be going as far as the defoliation tutorial says though.

Watered the GSC and WW full strength fox farms week 3 flower (minus microbe brew and flowers kiss) with silica and cal mag. I had to use ph up for the first time since switching to my well water 6.3 in 6.3 out all 4 plants. Did some pre week 3 pruning, hoping it help a little with humidity and figured doing it in 2 parts might be a bit less stressful on them. WW2 I think has taken the spot of big girl from GSC1. Everything is looking good, curious to see how they handle full strength. First time ever mixing up full strength nutes. The Auroras in the little tent are chugging along as well.6 Photos

Little update. The two GSC and WW hit day 14 of 12/12. They probably should’ve been watered tonight but it’s 230 am I had a pissy night at work and took a couple shots while closing and hit the vaporizer soon as I got to the basement. Not a good idea to mix nutes st the moment lol. I am loving the look of the tent right now filling out nicely, having to raise the light every other day.3 Photos
