What size pots to use in a 4x4 tent???

Here’s a pic of my tent 4 plants manifolded 5 gallon fabric 4c4

Im liking the 4 big plants as well. Are you getting enough light with the 600w in the 4x4 I’m still on the fence whether I should use 600-1000w bulbs. My hoods/balast is compatible with both. I guess the real question would be if I nearly double the output of the light will I yield that much more to justify a 1000w’s energy consumption?
 
I think your hood plays a big role in this as well. I’m using the magnum xxxl 8” from sun system and I think I had excellent coverage with the 600w. I had some heat issues as well which would’ve been even worse with the 1000. I’d stick with the 600 myself.
 
I’ve got an air cooled tube reflector. It’s compatible with both bulbs but I have yet to run it through a cycle. I’m definitely worried about heat. If you’re able to pull a pound with a 600w than maybe I won’t even need a 1000w
 
I am guessing your gram/watt would decrease with the 1000 watt, also if you’re going to be doing manifolds is grow from seed it’s much easier than from clones. And I think it’ll show in your yield.

My whole goal was to cut the seedling and germination time out. I planned on having 1, maybe 2 mothers (different strains if 2). Then just veg rooted clones for a week or two before throwing them into the flower tent. Am I naive for thinking like that? Please explain if so. I love to gain further understanding.

What you are describing really is more of a SOG. Lots of little plants, very minimal training, really short Veg.

That is quite a bit more work but does speed the time to harvest by probably 10-20 days.

You need to decide what is more important to you. Absolute speed - Quality - Yield - Workload. How do you want to balance those? What are your priorities? Rank them!
 
I run an aquaponics/hydroponics Farming company so work load for me doesn’t really matter. I’m already working these systems all day and I really really enjoy it. I think if I ranked those in priority it would be as follows...

Yield
Speed
Quality
Workload

But truly quality is fighting for second place. Once my second flower tent is completed and my perpetual harvest can double its output, quality starts to be king. My market is already producing mediocre quality so I’d like to provide a higher quality bud ideally. Once my setup is in full swing, speed will be irrelevant. I will be able to harvest monthly and will have my veg plants ready to replace. So then I’ll be able to really train and control the girls in veg more.

If speed beats quality = SOG
If quality beats speed = Manifolds or Scrog

Yield will be lower with a SOG per harvest, but marginally. It will produce larger yields through time because of the shorter turn-over.
 
Awesome. So I think I’m going to sog these clones (didn’t even want them really but they were free and a blessing to be able to harvest sooner than my other girls can) once they’re done I’ll sog my next set of clones part of my current journal

Once that is finished (around October) I’ll have a base mother to clone from. Once there I’ll play around with number of plants and veg times.

I’m still obsessed with cutting out seed time so maybe I’ll take near twice as many clones than I need and cull them down to the best looking, best trained, 4 plants before they get introduced to the tent.

By that time I should have enough to expand and have two flowering areas. That’s where I’ll decide whether I want to keep growing from clone or if I wanna just grow seed and get better control.
 
You want to grow seeds... Starting on Aug 11: Specifically, Gorilla Cookies and Dark Ghost Train Haze... I know that's what you really want ;)
 
I agree with campesino. For me I enjoy the training and nurturing of the plant and I’m growing for personal use and to share with some good friends. Both camp and I did a mini perpetual harvest set up with CFLs which will work great through the first month or so from seed. He had his in a spare shower. A true dark period isn’t necessary so you don’t really need a tent or light proof space during that time. Could be another way to get from seed to harvest quicker. IMO the only real advantage to clones is quality. If you know this particular mother produces some awesome bud...
 
Yeah, Locrian99 and I are of one mind with regard to plant training.
The other advantage of clones is $, if you are keeping a mother, it may be cheaper than buying seeds. But in my opinion, there are better ways to save money!

I do agree with you guys and believe seed is a lot more fun as well. Campesino you’re correct about money. It’s the only real advantage other than a few days cut off each harvest. With two tents even at 4 plants a tent it’s close to 80 bucks a month in seeds alone (if you’re growing premium strains which I plan to be). I have a lot of friends that grow and I feel like if I put the time into it, and grow really fire mothers, I’ll be able to hook up friends with quality clones and instead of spending 80$ a month I could make that back monthly and have free, solid, stalk to choose from when growing my own.

I think you are pretty dramatically over-estimating the cost of seeds! If you buy in any kind of volume, even top self are cheaper than that. Can't be buying one at a time though. You also end up with loads of freebies, I mean it really ends up cheaper than you're thinking.

In hydro it is possible that clones save a little time, but I am skeptical. In Coco, my clones absolutely take longer than my seeds. I have started twice with really good clones from a dispensary. So I am not even thinking about the time it takes to get them rooted. I start with rooted 8" healthy clones - and starting with a seed is faster. They cannot keep up or compete with seedlings... it's not even close.
 
Wow thread got good there I was enjoying the comments... 4 plants 7gallon air/fabric pots plenty to fill up a 4x4.
