The Great Auto Showdown

Photoperiod Furley.

Feedng on Sunday night. Just been pulling down ties, water only on Wednesday, took 4 leafs from the middle of each last night. Little side experiment, each of the plants are in a different kind of container.

Thingy 1.

is in a 5 gallon geopot. It is not ready in my opinion to flower just yet.day 26 from helmet head

Thingy 2

is in a 5 gallon vivosun grow bag, this plant is close but I may pull it to the other tent for a longer veg. Day 31 from helmet head.

Thingy 3.

is in a 3 gallon airpot. This plant is ready for flower. Day 33ish from helmet head

Yeah, it’s crazy watching everyone’s grows and technique. I have a total fear of DWC! A gf of mine does it for her first grow and isn’t having a lot of luck. I’m gonna start a blue cheese for her and have it topped and ready in a 3 gal bag of my soil where all she has to do is water and train it...lol.
 
That’s some serious branching, 90 degree angles and thic as fingers, it’s going to be a strong cola maker for sure
 
re: my Rings

I had been lurking around for a while, and saw all kinds of different ideas to train the plants. the worst case I saw, a guy had twisted dozens of screw-in hooks to his pot tops, it actually looked bloodthirsty :funny:

PaganRich uses some sort of orchid ring (which solidified the idea into my mind)

I was looking for a tomato cage (goes from small diameter to large diameter) that would secure, directly to the pot. I could use plant wire, or twist-tie wire to make a screen on the upper ring(s)


I got the "wreath rings" from my local garden center/hydro shop
the rings are available in varying sizes (I just picked up 2 x 16" rings for $ 0.69 each)
had to go to the hardware store for the eyebolts, washers and extra nuts. my first pots, I used 2 nuts on the inside - the last couple of pots, I switched to this 'locking' nut

the 12" rings fit my pot tops beautifully, the 16" will be an upper level

I am going to connect the rings with a chains and D-rings (caribeeners), eventually. at the moment, using zip ties

Thank You Mr.furley your picture #3 gave me my forehead slap "Duh" moment. I had it in my mind you guys were topping in such a way that you had multiple nodes coming off that cut (Fimming?), I see now you are topping and then using the branches below also.... anyway, thanks, clear in my mind. Not sure you can piece why it is :-)

The training Im using is a one top and Lst/Hst format that can be done with Autos as well.
 
I like that idea! I always just use electrical 14 gauge wire and push it down into the coco. However, I end up getting lazy at a certain point, or maybe you can only train them so far the way I do it lol.

I don't think my electrical wire would work in hydroton though 😂😂
