So I just started lst not even a full 24 hours ago. I was just curious as to how the rest of this technique goes. Am i going to wind up leaving it tied down for the remainder of it's life? It's there an appropriate time to untie. I'm just kind of clueless as to what to look for now. And what's next.
 
I don't always LST,- but when I do- I leave her tied down for months !

Once the plant is well into flower, you can remove , as the plant will harden in that position.
 
Ok. Thank you. Also I was wondering about the leaves on the bottom side that I know aren't gonna be able to make it to the top. Should I slowly remove those as it grows or should I give them a chance to make it?

Keep the stems tied down until the stem gets 'woody' or hard. The last grow I topped the plants after the sixth node grew and the started the LST. This added about two weeks of 'veg' time to the grow. My current grow is only LST and has developed several new nodes and bushed out very well in only six weeks. the photo shows the set up, four 55 watt CFLs (two at 2700 deg. K and two at 5000 deg. K) for each reservoir.
I have found that the lower leaves will fall off naturally as they are 'shaded out' by the rest of the plant. I do remove any small buds on the bottom (that do not receive enough light) during the flowering phase.

Leaves or no...I keep my plants tied, twist them more through out grow in the center of wire making little loops along the wire and or relocating their tie on branch point by moving the tie up the branch as the plant grows. Also may add more wires. Only at the last week do I cut my wires. I have found that they / mine spring back hard wood or not. I only work my wires after feeding/water. It's a pain hand feeding through the wires but....
your plants are beautifully dense and my concern would be- with so many leaves- an opportunity for bud rot.
If you check my today's post HEY Nebula...you can see how upen the last plant is and see the wires along the rim of the plants.

Beautiful plants DW. Thank you for the tips. I thought of topping as well before lst but as a first time grower I didn't want to chance it. I'll slowly be trimming off unnecessary leaves to help with the veg time. Not to much though.
 
Thank you! And yes I have been trimming slowly. I'm just scared of trimming to much and shocking the plant severely.

Believe me I understand the hesitation. It has taken me over 2 years to become mildly aggressive. It's a process of trusting your plants
you have some great plants.
 
It is daring but only twice
what I like is that it gives you a time frame and then back it up with RoyalNugs and in that case a bit of Green75. Main issue is to grasp the principal of defoliation basic. Let light and air flow into the plant. InFlower remove fan leaves that cover bud sites

I'm sure you're doing fine on your first lst. I'm doing my first lst too and also topped my first two plants and have removed the large fan leaves. It kinda sucks to grow something with all that time and attention just to hack off a perfectly healthy top but I try to keep the end goal in mind...nice top buds. Personally I love the way they look naturally and hate to cut anything off but I'm growing with cfls so it's necessary to keep them low.

I live in an area that is semi-arid, very low relative humidity. I keep two oscillating eight inch fans running (on low) 24/7 to keep the air circulating. There is also a six inch fan at the top of the grow space to exhaust the warmer air at the top.
I too like to keep training the plants to keep them compact and expose as many bud sites to the light as possible. I stop the training about three weeks prior to harvest.

You don't have to cut them all to hell. I don't ever top mine. I just LST and I get just as much weed. Just follow my grow. "My Girls So Far"
 
I finally had some extra time to go through the schwazzing article. I am planning on trying that my next grow. If my lst goes smoothly. I feel like I need to have a good solid grow behind me before I introduce any new techniques. I was actually very nervous about lst but my plant seems be bouncing back very nicely. I feel like I'm doing it wrong. I'll post another picture of how it's doing shortly. Thank you!
