My exact thoughts. I fell in love with how bushy and compact my plant was. But yes I do need to keep the end product in mind. I was going to top my plant as well but I'm too scared to do it right now lol.
 
Very nice wp. I have my tie down set up quite diff then yours. Of course my plant was growing diff as well. I'm going to post another pic shortly and I would like your opinion on if I'm in the right track.
 
Yeah I'm not really loving the 2 I topped but they've had a chronic mystery drooping issue since they were young so I haven't really gotten to see what they should have been either. I'd rather not top if it's not needed. I have 2 others that I took the large fan leaves off of and lst and one that I'm sticking to lst only. Trying a bit of everything I am Lol Didn't plan on the buffet route it just happened.

I attached a top and side view of my plant. I'm using soft string to have the main stem tied down and I have twist ties just hooked around the rest and pushed in the soil to keep them from growing straight up so they can be spaced more. My plan is to have 3-4 main colas depending on how well they are spaced. I have been trimming lower nodes off slowly. I just finished today. Am I on the right path? I feel like I'm making progress towards my goal but I'm still not quite sure. Any help would be appreciated!

When I tie the plant down in one direction , as in your pic, I would first secure the lower stem at the base with a string going the opposite direction.
This prevents the plant from being pulled out of the ground and uprooted.
Yours looks fine, so I wouldn't worry, but consider it before the next time.
If you look back at mine- the branches are tied straight down, so no need to secure the main stem.
My favorite LST is when I start out like yours and then do a spiral up a tomato cage- either inside or outside of the cage.
 
Oh man I hadn't even thought of that. Thank you. That's awesome I might try that some time. When I do I'll come back to you for more tips! Did you top yours before you lst'd? I'm curious. Also do you think I should go ahead and cut down to the 4 nodes I want to become colas soon? Or should I leave them a bit longer for more energy to the plant at the moment.

I'm doing LST right now, too. The goal is to let all the colas be of the same height and fill in all the vertical grow space. I trimmed some fan leaves off after tying down the apex, and the colas near the base are already showing growth! All they wanted was light and air circulation!! I will take pictures soon, but want to get a little more growth on the plants, and I need to drill some holes in the sides of my net pots (in hydro system) to anchor the ties.
 
I topped the plant about 2 weeks ago, then decided to LST- I did this simply to allow another plant, which is a slow grower to catch up to each other.
That said: I mostly LST for grow room management and not increased yield- as I am doing a series of rotations into the flower tent- 2 plants at a time and in this case I do not want them close to harvest while I am visiting Texas in January, but did not want them too tall when I flip them next week.

That question about " when" is controversial- many here have space limitations in the grow room and topping is a way to manage that:
The problem is that when you top at say the 3-6th node, you slow the tap root growth and the wispy roots increase.(kinda like clone roots-not as strong as seeds)
If you wait until the plant is 16-19 inches, before topping you get a much better root ball to feed your buds.
 
That is very smart. Have a safe trip! And I think I have come up with a plan that I will try. I'm going to cut down to 5 nodes including the main stem. I plan to switch into flowering stage early next month. 1-2 weeks before I will pick the 3-4 colas I want and cut the rest (1-2) to give time to recover before initiating flowering stage. I'm not hoping for a huge yield. I would just like a quality yield. Thank you!

To Schwazze or Not to Schwazze - we're putting it to the test.

We're actually running a schwazzing experiment at scale here at @LandDragon420 - We'll be documenting the entire process on video and then provide the weights at the finish.

It's a moderately well controlled experiment. 2 trays, 10 pots each tray, 15 gallons each pot, organic soil, Advanced Iguana Juice nutes, amended soil, lots of healthy beasties in our dirt. We're testing matched clones of Jack Herer - plants we know well and where we have a good idea of our typical yields.

It's been quite an interesting process so far, see for yourself ;-)
 
Thanks! We're always running experiments in this room. We like to do side by sides at scale so serious growers can see for themselves what works.
