Failure to clone

I have personally not had any trouble from spraying the clones directly, once every few days. The leaves do accept some water through their surface pores, helps keep hydrated in the absence of roots. Some even foliar with a light nutrient solution.
Let them dry off the next day because if they stay constantly wet, they will may get moldy. Just take the dome off to let them dry off, the day after spraying. Then spray the inside of the dome before covering. You should only have to do this once or twice before your clones are showing roots.
As with anything, don't overdo it.

Spraying the clones directly increases the chances for mold. Spraying the inside of the dome creates enough humidity for that to happen with out directly contacting the leaves. I’m not saying your way doesn’t work, I’m just saying if you are losing tons of clones...try not spraying them directly.

So you're saying you chopped what looks like a pretty big piece of a plant.. with multiple branches... stuck it in dirt.... and it's already showing new growth and roots after just 4 days? And there is a node underneath the dirt? You had mentioned roots growing out of a node vs the stem but I don't get it. Roots and nee growth in 4 days seems unbelievable based on my experience.

Found yet another guide and this part relates to Dingus' feedback about importance of water in the bottom of the tray:
DAY 5
Keep vents on dome open and check to see if pellets are dry.
If the Rockwool or Peat Pellets are dry to the touch we will add half a liter (~2 cups) of water to the cloning tray itself which will fill the grooves in the bottom of the cloning tray.
Important: If you add water, add it to the cloning tray itself to fill in the grooves at the bottom of the tray. Do not add water to the tops of the pellets at this point, or roots will take longer to form!
The pellets will absorb the water from the bottom of the cloning tray. We want the roots to search for the moisture, and forcing them to move downwards to find water will force the plant to root more quickly.
Adding water over the top of stems now will make it take longer for clones to root. Do not add water to the tops of your pellets!
I think this may be a key mistake i was making (resoaking the rooter from top when it gets dry)

In my experience with rapid rooters and similar spongy rooters, I let mine go from wet enough to where a couple drops come out if you give a light squeeze, and let it dry to point of not being shiny-wet, but still damp to the touch, and definitely not getting light brown.

It's pretty easy- 1st thing to know is that I cheat. I use a lot of rooting hormone - probably more than necessary but I don't argue with success haha.
I wish I had a plant big enough to provide one so I could do a photo tutorial but I'll try to be clear.
Start with a small jar 1/2 full of cool water. Stir in about 1/8 tsp of rooting powder. Locate your target clone. I like the biggest cutting I can fit under the bottle I'm going to use as a dome. I want as many leaves as possible in the canopy of my target. You want a long internode too. This will be your trunk & the deeper you can get it the better it will stand up. Take your target just above the next lowest node (makes the donor look better- has no impact on the clone) & on the way to the jar of water cut just below but don't damage the node on a 45° angle & put it in the water. If it gets stressed & wilts leave it in the water until it perks up. It could be 5min, 2hrs or a full day.
Next Fill the pot to about the depth the stem will reach & tamp lightly. Sprinkle another 1/8 tsp or so of rooting powder on top & stir into the soil about a 1/4 inch deep & fill the rest of the way with soil. Use a screwdriver, pencil etc to make a hole. Take clone from the water & dip it in rooting powder & plant it. (I've never had one get clogged by powder but I hear it can happen. Use gel also if you have it & you're worried about it) Use a pipette or similar & send 2 or 3 squirts down the stem to activate the hormone, trim the fan leaves off of each other & to keep from touching the dome but leave all you can. Then mist the clone lightly & the dome heavily, cover. The 1st morning I remove the dome until it begins to wilt, mist clone lightly & dome heavily, replace dome until it peaks up. Let it rest an hr or so & keep doing this from now on until it doesn't wilt & need the dome anymore. (Usually 5- 7 days)
In the mean time on the 2nd morning use the pipette to water a small section of the soil, away from the stem Day 3 continue as before but no more foliar feeding. By now it should be standing without wilting for most of the day. i still dome them at night for a few more nights. Day 4 water another section- again away from the stem (make it work & send the roots searching for water) From here I consider it done & a vegetating plant. She's still delicate & you need to be careful not to over or under water her & no nutes. Dome if it wilts but it shouldn't & that's it- I never lost one doing it this way.

I think I will reread that again after I'm not really stoned. I cant wait to read and actually understand it. Lol That being said I'm good at cloning but my PaPaw could clone a cats thumb.

Well for mass cloning this wouldn't be realistic. It's not how we did it at the nursery either- it takes too much attention to be cost or time efficient. & I didn't say they were 100% stable & rootbound in 4 days. If pulled & inspected some roots would be about 2 inches long while most are only a few centimeters.
