Dry ice hash...

This is a must try if you haven't before. The tutorial by Nebula and Sirius is right on (as aways) and they can add me to their list of converts! This is so easy and productive. An awesome way to utilize your last trim, sugar leaf and popcorn buds (if you have them).Next time around I may even try adding some bud into the process_ but for this first try I didn't want to take a chance with fine, cured bud. Two quart jars full of sugar leaf and popcorn buds (about two oz) produced about a cup of hash from the finest screen. Be careful! I was using a large piece of plexiglass like recommend but some of the resin dust will likely settle down beyond the edges of the surface you're working on_some of mine got on the floor which is wood and polished_ slipped on it in my socks and ended up on my ass....thankfully I didn't dump my just made hash on the floor too! Had to try some right away after that and I didn't feel any pain at all_thanks guys, awesome tutorial!

Yes it works just like magic! I made the dry ice hash (as per the tutorial on GWE) and it is great! I also tried baking it (similar to the cannabutter recipe) and enjoy it as a 'tea' with just a little dash of cinnamon for taste. Very mellow and I felt the effects sooner than I expected (and you don't have to watch half of the hash 'suck down the screen' before it burns!!!)
I used the 23 micron screen first and finished (for the tea) with the 120 micron screen. My attempts with the larger screens just made the hash harsher (and worse tasting for the tea).

I followed the GWE tutorial, using only the finest micron bag, the 220. Got it nice and cheap on ebay. The hash turned out fabulous!!

I'm wondering if anyone has any information about CURING sugar leaves before making hash? I assume that the same process ought to occur for all those sugar leaves that makes properly cured weed so great.

I started with the 73 which produced only the finest_ blonde color, very smooth smoke for hash.. Then I ran the rest through the 160, which came out a bit more lime colored and not as strong and a bit more harsh. I made this about 5 days ago and its gotten a bit more dense since then...which is actually easier to handle because it sticks together better. Didn't run it through the 220 screen/bag_ I was tired of shaking and scraping_ saved the rest for edibles. Hint_ if you don't seem to be getting much through the 73 screen then just keep shaking_ it kinda took a minute or two for things to really get going!

Yeah_ I have to agree_ the 160 screen product was not as strong or as smooth as the 73, but still good. Thanks for the suggestion about using it for tea_ never even occurred to me. I just may have to try that. So you carbolized it in the oven first? Do you just put it in the water and drink it all down? I'm thinking that if you carbolized it and then just put it in capsules...its so fine it would pack into those XX caps very easily....you wouldn't even need to make budder or oil....I'm gonna try your tea and then maybe try putting some into caps. Will report back on that!

ZigZag, I baked the dry ice hash in the oven (open to the air) at 230 deg. F for two hours. It does get a little smelly for a while, but a stick of incense or an open jar of Ona can take care of that. I found that putting the tea in the cup, with a dash of cinnamon, is very pleasant. I let the residue settle to the bottom of the cup and enjoy.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly the effects come on, I thought that it would take up to an hour, like some edibles do (Do you remember 'electric brownies'?), but it started working within minuets.
The cap thing should work but be on the cautious side with dosing amounts.

Hello, try putting some wax paper in a 5 gallon bucket, first put a 2 pieces on the bottom, make sure they are long enough to go half way up the sides, then take another piece of wax paper and go around the circumference and place that piece inside and on top of the 2 pieces you already have in the bucket, then just shake into the bucket just using the bag,(whatever micron bag of choice )and not the bag on a bucket, pull the rope on the bag tight to close and you will save a lot of hash that you would be losing with other method, the wax paper is like a non stick pan the hash just slides off when you remove the wax paper,(BE CAREFULL WAX PAPER IS SLICK)i have tried many ways and this is the easiest way and you do not lose any and no scraping up after just pour the hash in a bowl and enjoy.P.S. i have used my flowers for the hash and it is great.hope you give this a try and let me know how it turn out.

DIHash should be covered in two layers of foil when decarb in oven- keeps terrines in for one thing and approx 20 minutes..LESS than bud !
attaching dish photos of the finer 2 meshes with BUD and then a fine mesh using only trim. Go for the gold (color)

Thats a great idea_ will have to try that next time around! Thanks for the tip. The second time I did this I taped three long pieces of parchment paper over the top of the plexy glass (used a 3x4foot sheet_ the parchment was my wife's idea_ she uses it a lot in the kitchen. Then I didn't have to scrape it into piles_ just pulled the paper up and poured it into a bowl. Nothing sticks to this paper so its really fast and cleans up supper fast. But the bucket sounds great- I did loose some of "dust" on the floor, not much, but some. Thanks for your comment!

DW2_ thanks for the tips on the hash tea. Gonna try that tonight! Regarding the carbolization of the hash_ did you leave the oven door open a bit or closed_ not sure what you mean by open to the air? 220 sounds like a good, safe temp_ some people say 275 degrees but that makes me a little nervous_ the more fragile terpenes start to convert to THC at 320 degrees or less so thats not much margin for error. 220 sounds better. thanks!

ZigZag, by "open to the air" I meant that the foil with the hash was open to the inside of the oven and not closed up. It might be better to spread it on a piece of baking parchment paper instead of directly on the foil to prevent any possible reactions. I have a natural gas oven and the only time you leave the door open is when it's on broil and broil gets very hot.
How did your 'tea' go?

DW2_ thanks, I was just about to start with the prep for the tea_ perfect timing! So I'll try placing it on the parchment and then in the oven at 220 for 2 hrs.
Going to make some tea tonight! It's snowing like crazy and I'm dreading what's going to pile up by morning. Gonna need a good sleep tonight! Nice to also know it kicks in faster than regular edibles too! Thanks for the quick reply. :~)

I did my first attempt at the tea by completely enclosing the DIH in a foil packet, but the next time, I thought that leaving it open to more oxygen would work better. Now that you mentioned it Tika, keeping it enclosed would reduce the loss of the terrines and all, due to evaporation, to a minimum.
Great idea! That's what makes this forum so great, learning and benefiting from other's points of view and experiences!

Great DW2! I learned the double wrap from Bad Kat's ( gotta post the site soon..although not a good looking site it has good and STRONG process. Learning to keep the terpines in came from her.
Keep on cookin!
