Close to harvest?

Hi all, this plant has been flowering under LED light for 8 and a half weeks and I am a little confused as to how dark the pistles have to be before I can start the harvesting process. No idea of strain as came from bagweed, any help or advice would be most welcome.

Have you looped your trichomes for "cloudy"? Personally I watch trichomes then along with pistils.
 
No I don't have a loop at moment although planning to get one. At moment am using camera and zooming in to look. If my trachoma are cloudy looking is that a good sign, sorry am new grower and this plant started out as an experiment to see if the seed would grow and as it grew so did my enthusiasm, found this site and started following the advice I was reading. Thanks for response I think I will go and check my trichomes.
 
Best thing to do is get a lupe (with light if you can) at hydro store or online - a lot easier than camera imo. Look on GWE / when to harvest. I read and reread it every harvest. It is such an exciting time. Happy for you!
 
In my opinion they are not ready by the looks of them. The loupe is the best way to tell and it makes all the difference in the world. I love this forum because you get all this feedback. You don't have to guess because we don't know for sure about anything. Even if we've done it a few times we still are not experts so we bounce stuff off one another! Two heads are better than one, in this case many heads are better than one!!
 
No Title

Louped this one today and I think its ready. I'm not sure I see any amber trichomes yet but maybe. I think I see a couple dark trichomes.

Thanks guys for the advice been really helpful (note to self, you need a loop) and a big thankyou to tika, i learnt something from you my friend. Think I will let it have the last few days to get to 9 weeks then consider harvesting.

They look like they're developing very nicely! However, looking at the buds I can still see a lot of white hairs sticking straight out. Your trichomes are definitely getting really close but they're still a little glassy. I'd guess you still have a few weeks left to go before you hit peak THC levels. But the good news is that means your buds are going to get fatter and more dense!

Check out Nebula's pics. I'd agree with her, too many white hairs sticking out and buds should be more dense. Let em keep fattening up and watch the trichomes. Different strains can reach harvest looking a bit different_ even plants of the same strain. I just grew six plants, three each of the same two strains. Harvest time varied as much as three weeks between the first and the last of each strain. Why?_ only thing I can think of is genetics (every other aspect was the same). The last two plants (one of each strain) were just harvested a few days ago. Each of them had more white pistils than the others did when the trichomes were about 10-20% amber (when I like to harvest). So I'm going to recommend using trichome color and percentage to determine best time. I think I read that indica strains develop faster than sativa. Each hybrid strain can vary more than you'd expect (and I get my seeds from the most recommended suppliers). Trichomes are the best way to go but if you don't have access to a good means of examining trichomes up close then pistil color and bud size and density are best you can go by. Flowering time can vary too much between the same strain to use time as a way to evaluate when to harvest.
 
Thanks nebula after reading all the helpful advice on this thread and checking out the wonderful pics people have, i am going to let it carry on for a little while longer (about 2/3weeks). This gives me plenty of time to read up about harvesting, drying and curing.
 
Thanks zigzag, yeah after I started this thread i did more research and reading the posts has definitely helped me to make an informed decision on waiting a little longer and what I should be looking for.
 
It's about 5 months old karlee I think. It started out as an experiment to see if I could grow something as it grew so did my enthusiasm.
