1st Grow - Northern Light - Journal (aka help me not screw up)

Picture with all 4; Top Left Day 21, Top Right Day 20, Bottom Right Day 18, Bottom Left Day 13.

A little slow growing but overall things are going well (I think). Downloaded a lux reader app (so take it for what it’s worth) and the readings were; 4,000 Average and 10,050 Max. May start with some 1/4 strength FF Trio next week and will be looking to top the two biggest.

Seeds: 4 x Northern Light Photo Feminized (Nirvana)
Medium: FFOF, Coco Pots > 3 Gal Fabric Pots
Nutes: FF Trio (Haven’t started feeding them yet)
Water: 6.5 PHd water with cal mag every 2 days
24 Hour Temp Hi: 85
24 Hour Temp Lo: 73
24 Hour RH Hi: 67
24 Hour RH Lo: 45
Light: 23w CFLs for seedling, currently under a Vivarspectra v600 600w (260w actual) 28” up
Lux Reading: 4,000 Average, 10,050 Max
Exhaust: 4 Inch 190 CFM w/ Carbon Filter

Unfortunately lux readings do not really work with leds. They are not as easy to check as hps/mh etc. DrPhoton can probably provide a better answer to that.

Yes thats right, lux meters cannot be used with monochromatic light sources such as red/blue LEDs. They show a much different reading compared to broad spectrum light sources and so no comparison and or usable data can be obtained from this.

There is also the issue of using lux meter apps which are highly inconsistant due to variable sensors. But also because they lack a cosine correction lens which is very important for off angle error correction.

They do look great - fabulous color - although I'm just wondering why they are so deep in the pot?

I have done that before when all I had was 12 gallon pots and not 12 gallons of soil. Lol But I folded the extra over so you couldnt tell.

Misjudged the depth needed for the coco pots and didn’t take into account the soil settling. Once I Top and remove some of the lower leaves, I’ll add more soil to right below the “new” bottom shoots.

I hate to say it but those roots would have been so much happier with that much more soil below them - that's where you have to start the happiness is with the roots - cuz it's really the first thing they do. More roots = bigger and happier plant which results in bigger flowers.

Day 28 for “Nina Limon” #1 . About to top her and one of her sisters. She’s due for a watering. Just gave them 1/4 strength FF Trio week 1 schedule on Monday and wanted to let the soil get really dry before watering tonight with CalMag.

Should I water before topping or after? If you see it, say it as all feedback is welcome!

Topped the two largest above the 5th node and cleaned up below the 3rd. They were thirsty!

KenneyHo Looking good so far, My first grow useing good genes was Northern Lights Feminized from Nirvana. I grew 3 and trained them all under LST. I'll post my journal site for you here so you can get an idea of kinda what to expect. The Lights is a great beginner strain to start with and is a really decent smoke if properly cultivated. I know they are not the best pictures, however these are the two girls I topped yesterday and gave a good watering with CalMag. They are bouncing back nicely (I think).
