yeah sounds like it would work as long as you can keep the open end of the bag from widening due to airflow thus pulling the ends out from under the door

look into a mini-split a/c system. it is an a/c unit in the summer AND a heater in the winter. you can get one for under $1000. you will never look back after buying one. i have a portable unit that will be going into my room this summer. after a few rounds i will invest into a mini split. a friend of mine loves his..it's always sunny and 77 degrees in his room.

haha, love how you instantly got my back OzBud . You the real MVP!
Yeah, unfortunately adding a split ac is not an option. Too much modding involved, and i'm not allowed to change any part of this rental apartment.

My portable ac sits outside the tent with a duct hose running to one of the openings blowing inside, no worries about heat since it sits outside the tent!Perpetual setup!

Daaaamn, I don't know how that didn't cross my mind. Having the unit outside the grow room, and blowing the cold air in!
And i'm supposed to be an engineer by profession, haha.
Love that idea. I might try experimenting with it. If that were the case, i'd have to find a way to direct all the cold air coming out of the ac underneath the door and into the grow room. hmmmmm. Maybe have a bin bag attached to the ac air output and underneath the door?

I think that the heat issue for indoor growing is one of the stickiest points of all, and I don't mean that in a good way. I have had to spend the most money on creating an environment that isn't too hot in my grow room. It is one of the reasons that I installed solar panels (got a nice chunk back from the govt, but still an expensive investment), so that I could lower my indoor temp. As I've written before, I didn't want to install a window AC unit because it would compromise the security of my crib. The chiller was another $300, and it works great: I don't regret that purchase at all.
I think that we cannabis growers are going to have to get real creative about how we grow indoors if summers continue to heat up to higher and higher temperatures...Anyone can grow schwag. If you want to grow top shelf bud, study hard: https://www.growweedeasy.com

Green your idea might work these new portable ac units are designed to use in one spot and vent in different room, now that being said I don't know if the crack under the door can handle the volume the unit will put out but here is a low cost solution get a different door with the same hinge set up change the door do what you need to to make it work then you still have the original door to reinstall when your done with the grow room . also keep this in mind the amount of cfms a 6 inch pipe can move is drastically reduced at every 90% turn so try and keep it as straight as possiblenew grow room built summer of 2017 ,argo max tent for veging ,big kahuna reflector, 1000hps with added leds for the full spectrum . 15th indoor grow ,5 years outside gorilla grows(stealth is the key),veg under t5s growing autos under 300w leds

So my first try was kind of a success and a failure at the same time.
I hooked up the AC inside the grow room and linked up the duct with a bin bag underneath the door.
There was a clear struggle in terms of amount of air trying to make it out underneath the door. Looks like the space underneath the door might be just a tad too small of a crack.
Well, either way, the room temp started going down pretty quickly. I was happy.
I came back ten minutes later and for some reason the AC was just blowing warm air, and not cold air. As if it were on fan mode. Although I left it on AC.
Well needless to say, the room temp had climbed back up.
Not sure why that happened. Any ideas what might be the cause? =/
It was only a half hour try in total, so tomorrow i'm gonna try for a bit longer and see the results.Last edited by GreenArmadillo; 05-22-2017, 01:56 PM.Originally posted by 420n808
If you are new to growing, the first time you see the balls, you'll never forget the sight. You will know M-F from that point on.

Most portable AC units have a temp sensor so the condenser shuts off to save energy once that temp is reached, the sensor is in the actual unit sitting outside the tent. Try setting your temp lower to keep the condenser on and cool air will constantly blow into your grow space. Peace!
FYI you might need to just cut a hole in your door!

BTW, just for the sake of ending this thread..
I know i'm a bit late, as i've been super lazy due to smoking..lol
But yeah, I ended up returning the unit and speeding up my harvest instead of combating the heat issues head on. The portable AC was a failure. Unless the hot air coming out of it is ducted outside of a window directly, it will do nothing in terms of cooling down the grow room.
So i'm gonna skip growing during the summer months, cause the heat would be too much to battle against.
Cheers.Originally posted by 420n808

Hate to say this, but from what I read about the warming trend, it's only going to get worse. I really wonder what will happen to outdoor cannabis growing. And it will become much more expensive to grow inside. GreenArmadillo Why don't you just install an AC window unit in your grow room?
-
That's a fair point to be made about the whole issue of heat rising in general.
And btw the reasons I can't install an AC:
1) I'm renting this apartment, and have been told not to change a single thing within
2) My grow room is in a pretty small spare bathroom

I just ordered a refurbished single hose air conditioner/dehumidifier for $199 it will be here next week. Since I cannot vent outside the tent I have ran a 6" vent for it that discharges at my charcoal filter if needed I will add a small inline can fan as it's about a 14-15' run.First grow Bagseed and Acid Dough:

Yeah man. If growing in a tent, then everything is A-OK, even with a portable AC. You'd just direct the cold air inside the tent, and get rid of the hot air in any way you choose.
I would have done this, but because i'm growing in a bathroom with a sink and toilet in it, I can't quite fit in a grow tent, haha. Too many odd bits and pieces sticking out here and there.
All the power to you bro. (Y)

I have the Della it works great but won't help the rh. Maybe a touch but the math theory is theory . Also have a dehumidifier and a sump pump to drain the water. The vent is hot hot. I run the hot air of the dehumidifier into the back of the ac then vent the ac out the ceiling. Works great but it does take a bit of cash. Temp 72 and rh 50 and I live in a swamp it's 100 percent rh outside and 90 degrees. Also the use plenty of energy so the electric bill will go up. Lights off during day for sure but make sure you can keep it dark for 12 hours for flower, no Leaks! I dont have a chiller though so that saves some money😀 good luck and happy growingBubbleponics

Weather is going to keep on changing everywhere. Down in the dirty south, we are seeing more and more days with a heat index well over 100 degrees and 90-100% humidity. I also expect we will see more extreme weather systems continue to develop. Two years ago in October we had massive flooding and last year in Oct. we had hurricane Matthew. Can't wait to see what this Oct. holds. It's always so much fun to lose power for a week. I think it's better to try to be prepared and not be in denial about what's happening with the warming of the planet. Seriously considering investing in a good generator...

Added a small 35p/day dehumidifier with a garden hose gravity drain. The connection is about 7" above the floor so plenty of head to drain to floor drain about 15' away. Used a small cardboard box to collect the output from the dehumidifier (80F @ 25% rh) I cut a 6" hole in the box to route the warm dry air to the intake of the air conditioner just as Capncanna suggested. I am messing with my exhaust cfm and passive intake sizes and locations. Once I get it dialed in I will post an update.

Make sure the vent is tight. Also if it has a dehumidifier built in turn it off. It works by heat. Mine does the same thing . Had to buy a seperate dehumidifier. You wouldn't notice that momentary rise in an open space but in a grow room it's a lot. Also if you get a dehumidifier make sure and buy a sump pump. Good luckBubbleponics
