i did a search... i apologize if these have already been addressed.
i have been reading this site since August 2017. just become a member of the boards today...
I am a retired and disabled soldier, i started growing in august 2017 when we moved to Colorado and i found this website. i tend to keep my crops 4 to 6 plants.
i have 1515W in a 4x6x8 grow space i built in my garage with portable AC.
Currently running 5 plants in 7 gal pots.
Bubba Kush x 2
Afghani #1 x1 (was 2 but 1 failed to get passed coming out of the ground. )
OG kush x1
all above purchased from Seed supreme
Black Russian x1 (friend gave it to me so i re-vegged it as it was 2 weeks into flower and i was still 2 weeks into veg.)
that allowed me to veg my other 4 a little longer
light distance - i have had LED as close as 10" (leaves curled realized bad after the fact.)
Currently running all 3 - 1 CMH and 2 LED at 30" no closer than 24"
NANOLUX 315w CMH - ???
Viparspectra 600W LED - ???
Defoiling- i am swaying to 1 time a week larger shade leaves and nothing else. up to week 3 of flower then leaving until flush week. so i can defoil 1 if i do it again end of this week 2 Flower.
When - ??
When Not - ??
Feeding in Coco - I tend to feed every 48 to 72 hrs based on pot weight (i transferred from Fox Farms Ocean so that mentality stuck)
I have read i should be feeding daily - this makes me nervous...
i hand mix each gal of water/feed. usually 5 to 6 individuals
i dont bulk mix makes me nervous on having to much nutrients. the individual mixing is therapeutic.
As with everything this whole cannabis growing is as several stated before personal preference, what works for you and your life.
i will take all advice and use what i can and thank everyone in the process.
Thank you again,
AB

alltatup so i was doing that defoil tech when i first started to grow, cause this is the website i found that made it simple. when my crops started to fall apart early etc.... i thought i was defoiling wrong and that nebula and all her research was wrong.... it was my tent... it was swiss cheese, i got the vipar spectra 4x4 and the zippers were not lined up right i thought the internal flap would fix that gap... nooooooooooooo and it popped pin holes galore on the flaps from opening and closing for feeds. so what i originally thought was that defoliation method was in fact faulty equipment. now in this room i built i returned to that method you mentioned. they will be in week four of flower on saturday. i couldnt be happier with their performance. defoliation works. so many bud sites. currently the lights are 16 to 18" from the tops. they grew nicely into frame. from top of Pots to lights is 36". plants are sitting at 22 to 26" tall in their 7 gallon homes. in a 3x3 flowering footprint

SierraBravo4 Good detective work with the faulty tent!!! It's a true relief to figure out what is causing a problem!!! Glad to hear that your girls are budding like crazy; that's what we want!!!!

@alltatup
thank you, i am always looking for improvement. this by far is my best run up to this point.
i am going to dive into the defoilation a little deeper. i understand the idea of light to site its the common sense approach. i find i get nervous about reverts and stress. i am hoping more people throw out their ideas on the three topics(COCO feeding, LIGHT distance, defoilation) so i can get a feel from the community on how these three work together for different people. different strains different pains

@Sierra Bravo4 thank you for your service and I think a welcome home is in order ,I grow in Coco as well I use to water by hand but always mixed nutes in a 5 gallon Bucket , if you are giving your plants silica you should put that in the water first and give it at the very minimum 1 hour I usually leave mine overnight then I add Calmag then any pk boosters then either grow or bloom ,then a wetting agent ,then hydrogaurd '
Since I switched to mixing nutes in this order I noticed a marked improvement in plant vitality the trunks were much bigger than all of my other grows ,you can always go to a auto watering system I water mine 4 times a day and they love it ,if your interested in the watering system PM me and I write it all out not that expensive to donew grow room built summer of 2017 ,argo max tent for veging ,big kahuna reflector, 1000hps with added leds for the full spectrum . 15th indoor grow ,5 years outside gorilla grows(stealth is the key),veg under t5s growing autos under 300w leds

Silica, calmag, then grow/bloom are the most important nutrients we have and should be in every watering .
growing in coco i find i have much more control over things but one thing it does do is build up salts/nutrients if they are not washed out periodically , so once a month I would give them all a good flush to get ec/ph back in the good zone , I did this for years but since went to auto watering ,coco needs to be buffered with calmag because it leaches into the coco , when I make my coco I add 60 mg of calmag and this gives the coco what it can hold on to so I dont show calmag deficiencies.
30 inches is usually the distance using leds .cmh not sure of I lowered mine to about 10 inches but it was on a light rail so it doesn't burn plants ,I believe there is a tutorial on lights on gwe .as far as defoliation, look in week 4 update I did what I thought was a good defole then Nebula asked if I was going to defole them , you can really remove alot with out hurting them , I like to defole towards the end of veg then at 3 weeks in bloom and thats it unless i'm manifolding plants then I trim as needed

I’ve defoliated to a point where I was able to look through the plant from the top down... 2 weeks later It really looks like I’d never touched them. As for watering, Oldjarhead100 gave me that watering plan and a complete list of parts... going forward with that in the fall... thanks Oldjarhead100 💧

it all comes down to PPM and PH monitoring which i am not a fan of.
i dont PH my water with AN PH perfect line... and i dont need Calmag supplement anymore... it is pricey but im in the 4 to 2 plants in 7 or bigger gallons. right now im at 6 gallons with 4 plants, i pulled the black russian she was growing back funky i didnt want to chance it. as it was an import from a friends grow. i feed them 1.5 gallons every 48 to 72 hours. my calculations on using Advanced Nutrients is 2 liters of Base A and B ea, and 1 liter of ea supporting nutrients. i can do a full 4 months cycle from seed to smoke. again the auto feeding i will have to check into a little more for a future grow and if PPM and PH isnt an issue using the nutrients i use. something like they are good at ph balancing for up to a week in soil/grow medium. i should be good right???

In the old days for humidity in the winter ,my parents would place a pot of water on the wood stove and it would lightly steam away in the background. So when I tried a wide tray of water with a fan blowing on it, it did work....not a huge change but it did bring up humidity a few points

I’d folier feed my girls deluded fish emulsion once a week. Autos are 24/7 light. What I’m saying is it’s ok to spray with the lights on. Make sure you use a distilled water tho. Also, you can’t have the lights too close because it will burn. Good luck

Thanks Retodd! I have the light the reccomded 600mm above for hps! Have tried towels/bucket/tray/humidifier/ extraction fan lower!! Temp is good at around 25deg c but still only went up to 35% humidity! Trying to get above 40 or 50%!! Hmmm

I’m in the states, so not doing too well on knowing the metric/standard....lol. I don’t use a humidifier or anything in my tent when I grow indoors. I’ve only done 4 grows in my tent. As you can see from my profile pic I’m a outdoor grower. If you want to talk to the best grower on here talk to Spidermite He’s my best friend. Remember to put the @ in front of names to tag us. Good luck bud

Regarding outdoor growing and random rainy days, I have an outdoor grow that has started showing those little hairs (it's a girl!!!) Is it ok for rain to hit these or should I worry when actual buds start to form?1 Photo
