New grow...1st grow; the seeds germinated on Aug 11 2018 and were placed in rapid rooters to develop.about August 20 they were planted in 3 gallon fox farm ocean floor soil and started feeding the fox farm trio. So far it is almost 6 weeks and all appears well with 2-1000 led light 36”-42”off the canopy and bending training . Amazed that in 6-8 hours they are fully curved back looking at the ceiling. 18/6 light schedule All seems text book.

i can leave them in veg, no auto here but wonder, since I am the sun, moon and stars to these ladies, I’m wondering how long and what benefit comes from long veg periods besides stem and leaf growth. The overall height is currently 20” on the blueberry kush and 18” on the velvet cheese . They are both equally wide about 18” 4- plants. Some of the fan leaves are bigger than my hands..room temp is 75, humidity is 56, co2 ranges 850 to 1140. Plants were topped two weeks ago and new growth is there and in place.

i think my question will be, when would be a recommend time after seed, to convert the lighting schedule to 12/12 and coax them into flowering? And then, keep an approximate future date for a possible harvest .
I am considering going to the 3200k 315W LEC ceramic metal halide for the flowering portion...vented reflector out of the room for heat assist.

Hi Farmall, the longer in veg = the bigger the plant, of course. Depends on how much head room you have for them to stretch after you switch to 12/12...

Just came back from checking them out after reading your post. So far, the pot is 16” tall and the plant is 16-18” so I have a Total of near 34” out of 80” to the bottom of the glass shield on the 315w vented lec light when it goes to flower. So this light will be 46”of space to the top cola when it grows. All lighting at this time has been from 2. 1200watt phlizon led for 2 pots each....I have LST these very bushy plants and topped them 3 weeks ago and all following text book growth pattern 18/6 schedule working. In this space at the warehouse, the co2 levels rarely drop below 900 and today I watched 1240 for several hours. Anxious to move on but you know that wine ad...’we will sell no wine before it’s time’

after All the work ...ain’t changing before its time too. I don’t mine long veg, just watching and waiting as we all seem to do.does another 3-4 weeks of veg seem too long? That would be 9 weeks since germination. Appreciate all thoughts...

If you're going for monster plants, keep vegging!! ;-} I wish I had the headroom to veg longer, but I use grow boxes. I'm good vegging for between 4-6 weeks (depending on what the avg. stretch is for each strain).

Currently involved in two processes; soil and hydro. The soil is ready for the text book photos... the hydro is pretty good but not what I’ve seen here. They are stretchy, have some nice topped growth but also some thin nothing sprouting at the bottoms near the first node. I’m tempted to prune that growth off. It does not seem like it can amount to anything. Switched to 12/12 4 days ago mostly because the soil is ready, hydro...I just want it to go into flower and finish things off. Probably need two grow areas separate from each other in this case.

the hydro had some issues I have not identified properly like a few spots mid leaf in the lower nodes, fine looking from node 2-5. Leaf curl upwards only on the edges...again nodes 2-4. Sparse growth between nodes like maybe 4-5 “ of stem then a node. A few giant fan leaves maybe 9” across at node 2 on 2 separate plants, they shade anything below them but they are node 2 level. I need to find if my trouble is nutes, pH, temp, or lighting. I have made routine pH down adjustment to 5.9-6.1. Using the GH trio with hydro-guard and cal-mag. My LEDs are 1000 w and cover 3 plants each. I know about leaf burn so as a test, since I’m not happy with these, was to measure temp and humidity at the top of the canopy. I get 74.7 and a humidity of 61%. Have 2 21” fans oscillating and try not to direct the flow directly at them .. 1 for hydro, 1 for soil at low speed but still a bit of a breeze.

nutes changed every Week and now measures about 760 ppm and ph of 5.9using a continuous top feed with each in its own 5 gallon bucket with water level at 3 gallon mark, about 1 inch below the net pot. Air stone for each bucket and 3 air stones in the reservoir. During the first 2 weeks I did notice and cleaned, a tan color foam in the 20 gallon reservoir... not sure of what it was but having used protein skimmers in marine aquariums, it must have been some form of dissolved organic material. No smell ever.

I get some muck that builds up in my reservoir, but I think it's the Great White mychorizae I use. My roots get stained as well from the nutes, but I don't worry if there's no root rot.

The hydro plant sounds like a Sativa-dominant... no?

No, they are not Sativa... Indica hybrid but they had grown like very tall Sativas

What is the best way to rid your plants of spider mites when you are 4 weeks into flower with plants that finish flower in 10 weeks

You can use a mix of alcohol and water and spray them. My friend PaganRich had a bad problem with them on his last grow. Maybe he’ll chime in. I’ve heard of castile soap and water too, but I have never personally ever had to deal with them.

Thanks for the shout Retodd mate. Peycke I feel your pain...they are bastards of the highest order, extremely difficult to keep under control, ruin plants and your whole day, lower yields, etc, etc. That`s the bad news. Good news is, they can be `managed`. I use a rotating selection of either, Neem oil, insecticidal soaps, SM-90, alcohol and water and now a pesticide whilst vegging. I run a perpetual harvest for 8 months of the year. I smoke a lot, build up supplies then shut down in the hot months. This year I picked them up early and have lost at least one poss two plants as well as lower yields. Yet, it`s when you see them happily spinning webs on your buds that you want to get a sledge hammer out and pound the little sods into the floor-repeatedly.
Anyway, my advice, hit them with the heavy stuff in veg, pesticides, insecticides, neem oil as there`s no buds. Then flowering I rotate the options as they build resistance and I paint the leaves to try and coat the eggs with neem or soap. Every bloody leaf I do-sigh. For buds, alcohol and water though they do get used to that. It is an unrelenting battle but you can keep their numbers down with robust and regular treatments. Also, beware of cross comtamination between rooms, tents, etc. They can be beaten but realistically, you will need to take a break to allow any unhatched to hatch and die. Best time to do this is hot weather which will make them come out to party. Sorry it appears bleak but you really have to dig deep not to get totally fed-up...I`m already at that point Also, watch out for what some folk claim to work, bleach and water submerged for 6 hrs was one barking idea someone was trying. Just don`t get anything on the buds and don`t make solids with the sugar leaves, etc as both will be coated by stuff best not smoked. I miss my solids. Pesticide bombs are good as well I believe...perhaps it`s that word bomb that is attracting me. Anyway, all the best mate and good luck.

For outside in the ground I always use diatomaceous earth when planting. There’s a mix of hydrogen peroxide you can use indoor. I’ve never had too, but I’m sure you’ll find it if you google

I am growing DWC in a small grow box that measures 4ft tall , 16 inches wide and 9 inches deep. I have two plants growing at the moment, but unsure if I have the correct lighting. What would you suggest for the best lighting that isn't terribly expensive and can be used for the entire grow?

First serious grow. Indica seeds from China. Indoor , five gal bucket, floresc lights 24 hours a day untill 12 on 12 off for five days to flower.CO2 generator, water w/ miracle grow twice a day.Germinated easy and took off. It gave every indication that it was female then when it flowered it grew pollen sacks everywhere. It's been five months nutureing and tending to it now I am gonna just kill it. How do I keep from repeating this . What makes it be able to be male and female?
What kind of sick sorcery is this.
Also what is the general consensus on "Bat gauno" for bud growth. I have heard mixed opinions. Stanky

regular florescent lights wont work well on plants and using Miracle grow will work but the time release stresses plants ,what is your grow medium if you are in dirt watering twice a day is to much, a plant should take 6 weeks in veg if you are training it ,4 if you are not and then its 8 to 10 weeks in bloom ,I kept some for about 6 months when I first started growing and they hermied to , Was it a female seed ,read all the tutorials you can on gwe and try it again with a good light and some nutrients made for cannabis and you'll do alot better

Hey Travis, welcome to the forum. Are they still in vegetation? You won't be able to tell until you see signs of sex emerge, usually after you switch to flower. But male plants tend to be lankier than females.

It is so fun! I was given a very crude setup, but have gone crazy and have a 4x4 for flowering and a 2x4 for veg now. I have all 12 plants I can legally grow going, I get up and check on the kids, lights go on at 6am when I have to get my boy up for school, go home at lunch and work with my 2 flowering plants, then when I get home I spend at least another hour downstairs.

This is the best hobby I have had! Plus the reward at the end will be fabulous, I just can't wait to finish my current plants and get going on next!
