    Flowering Dilemma

hi ppl., here's a q. i'm getting different info on. Will an ordinary streetlight 40 ft. away from my plants cause a prob. come flower time? should i use a box or a bag to block them or even start early flower to avoid bud rot? thanks for any help

    #2
I think with the streetlight that close you will need to block it from your plants as much as possible. It's the spectrum that's the problem. I'm assuming you're not growing autos?

40 feet? Are you basically underneath them?
I've had friends grow in their backyards with streetlights in the neighborhood. But not 40 feet close.

Better to safe than sorry I reckon... Shoot that f*$#er down. Ive heard of ppl throwing a blanket over them at night but I imagine that wouldn't be as easy as it sounds and I'd be worried about snapping a head off.

yeah, you know going out in the pouring rain and covering them is gonna suck. i could move them to the back of the house but there only a cpl. hours a day sun back there

Ya that sounds close to the plants, 2 hours of sun is not enough
you could build some sort of “frame” around your plants to support your light dep blanket. Even a few big stakes info the ground might make it easier on the plants at least.
getting out there all the time to cover them does sound like a chore.

I have street lights in front of my house and I haven't had a problem yet, but I grow behind the house,I think it would be different if you start the plants indoors and then put them out side

Can you put them behind the house at night and then put them back in the sun in the morning

Get yourself a queen bee. Attach the queen bee to the light cover. When other bees come to mama, they'll block the light.
You might have to do it a few times, depending on how proactive your community is about removing beehives from streetlights. If it's long enough, you might even be able to get some honey from it!

If you can make out colours then it's too bright

If not you'll likely get away with it.

Stand by the plant at night with a book. If you can read the book, then it’s too much light.

Is the light the bright blue/white type, or the orange-ish halide type? The blue/white is supposedly hell on plants. The orange-ish light is not so bad, but still not great.

Night light limit is approx 0.1 foot-candles (0.1fc). Try an app on your phone to measure light, and if it reads anything higher than that, then it could be disruptive to the plant.
There are 3 things you must check everyday when growing in hydro:
            1) Water level (How much h2o is she drinking in 24hrs)
            2) pH level (change over 24hrs)
            3) ppm/EC level (How much food is she eating in 24hrs)

If that Street light is connect the city or county grid the moment it goes out a circuit closes and it sends a pulse signal to a operator that generates a work request to the Electrical civil engineer for that grid section. Work orders should be closed after 96 hours of generation. BB holes are easy to see and the direction of travel just takes common sense. Felony 2-5 if the lineman is a arse.

With a pellet gun. 20 gms of lead traveling at 2000 fps ,maybe. Best be close. That glass is tougher than you think.

You could get someone to do a hit and run in a old truck... If they anything like our city council they'll replace every other working light before they fix the broken one

Yea ok I see how you thinking haha. nearly all our population lives within 100km from the coast, the middle can be isolated and desert, much like Woomera except for the space and missile launching stuff.
