    Grow pot size

Good day, new grower here.. 1st grow doing well so far.
So my 1st question is, since i have my grows in 1 gallon fabric pots, do I need to replant them in larger pots (currently in the veg state) or can I complete my grow in the same container size that I started them in?
2nd, once i have completed my grow and cut all the buds off to dry, is the remaining stock of the plant done, or can i regrow from the same stock?
3rd, Once my grow is complete, can I reuse the same pots and soil or do they need to start from scratch again?

Thanks, any help works. Diamond L

Good day and welcome to the forum. I would definitely transplant to at least 5 gallon pots unless they are autoflowers.(autos don't like to be transplanted). And yes once the buds mature and chopped that plant is done. Fabric pots can definitely be reused after cleaning. I usually just spay them with the hose but if they are really dirty I'll throw them in the washing machine. Good luck.

Hey DiamondL - I am just getting ready for a grow after taking a break and was thinking about pot size myself. Here's my setup:
Indoor, Soil, 4x4ft, MH and HPS, Techniflora nutes, fem SensiSkunk and White Widow

I decided on 10 gal / (6) plants in the space so I think for sure you want to transplant 5gal min as Orggrwr said. If you do have some root issues and find that is going to be a challenge, don;t despair. There have been coffee can/solo cup full grow challenges and they had some good results :-) So you can still have a good harvest in a 1 gal fabric pot. Just feed and water a lot more (as I recall I hooked up an IV bag of nutes/water to mine for continuous feeding) and you have to pay more daily attention to the grow.

Trying to re-veg a harvested plant is doable, but will take a while. So it depends on the time you want to invest and the number of harvests you want this year. If you want 3 harvests in '24 start again from seed.

The fabric pots are 100% reuseable. I acrtually prefer them as "seasoned" and I have poked holes in them for wire for LST, etc. The soil is too, but I don;t try and recycle it. I like a hotter soil (FFOF) and prefer to start fresh. .

I start mine in solo cups then after they are established they go into the final pot. 1G is small. I use 3G. I prefer that to 5G because of humidity issues and practicality of how much water I have to carry up the stairs. Do what is right for you. Pots can be reused if you want. I suppose that it depends on how much aggravation you can put up with vs using new. As far as re-growing goes, Do you mean re-veg or growing out the larf? Re-vegging can be done but it is a long road and not worth the effort imo. I do let the skeletons with larf on them grow out if there is room in the tent as seen here. The buds were small, but man they were sticky. Sometimes I leave them in solo cups just for fun and because even the runts, I have a hard time just trashing them out because they are small as billyboy has shown.

Don't worry, be happy, grow sticky buds.

I'm going to assume you grew this from seed and not a clone or already rooted plant that someone gave you. Are they auto or photoperiod seeds?

When you say "grows" are you referring to more than one plant in a pot? Did you germinate the seeds in the soil by planting them all in one pot? If they are multiple seeds than you will need to carefully remove them from the pot, remove the dirt around the roots being careful not to damage the roots and replant each one in their own pot. Without a picture I can't tell what "Going well" means.

Because I don't have a visual of the plant(s) I have to assume, going by your "going well" statement, that they are mature enough to be planted separately. I would plant them in 1 gallon pots and grow them as large as you need before they flower if auto or you induce them to flower if they are photoperiods.

If it's just one plant in the pot then, yes, it would be a good idea to up pot them but that also depends on the size plant you want. This pertains to photoperiods as they aren't finicky about transplanting like the autos are. If it's an auto I would keep it where it's at and let it do it's thing but next time, if you're doing autos, I would plant them in a 3 gal container so that you don't have to transplant or be limited to a one gallon pot.

You can regrow but I would advise against it. Some have and do do it but I prefer to just chop the entire plant down and start from scratch.

Yes on both. In fact, I would say it is beneficial to reuse the soil you've already used as it will now contain a lot of the bacterial endophytes and fungi that the plant likes. You can use a product like Recharge to recharge the soil nutrition but I just take the soil I grew in and mix in about half of what I have in used soil with new. Haven't had an issue yet. The one caution I would say is by not using new soil, the soil buffers may be depleted so if you're not pHing your feed solutions you MIGHT run into a pH issue.

When you get a chance read this. I posted it so that newbs like yourself can get a leg up on how to choose the right pot size for the media you want to use along with what's going on in the soil when you water and how to water properly.

That was a great article, Roots. I highly recommend that read…and knowledge on the soil reuse. Kept my last grow in an airtight bag. Now I know what to do

I agree. I'm not the author so I can't take credit for it but when I read it I knew this would be something that a lot of people could take away some real valuable information.
