I hate loosing my best friend, my dog is going to die and there is not a damn thing I can do other than make it shorter to the end. I try to get him to eat (feeding him by hand one bite at a time until he says no more), but he will only eat a bit 1 time per day (thats with meds that cost nearly $25 a day), he has lost at least 10 lbs. I am waiting for lab tests to come back (is it also cancer?), but I already know he has a tumor on his liver, gall bladder and into his spleen. He spent 2 nights with the Dr/vet for observations, in this time the tumor doubled in size and is not operable. So now its up to me to decide just how long he lives (suffers) before I have to make the choice to have him put to sleep. For now he does not act like he is in major pain, uncomfortable yes, getting weaker yes loosing weight yes. IMHO my dog is more faithful and loyal than a spouse or kids, he is almost 14 YO (I have had him since he was a puppy) I new this day would come, but I thought I would have another couple of years with him at the least. Having him put to sleep seems like I am choosing to kill him, and if I thought he was in severe pain I would make the decision sooner. I am already missing him, and again my face is wet with tears, he is also deaf so he cant hear me telling him how much I love him, but I think he knows.
Anyway Happy thanksgiving to you all, I wish it was for us too but I'll be here crying.

Losing a loved one is never easy.

He knows you love him and vice versa. That's all that matters in the end.

You're both suffering. Don't prolong his pain or yours.

I've lost many loved ones, as all of us on here have experienced. In the past I've found it very cathartic to bury my dogs myself with their favourite possessions. I did so down the beach in the sand dunes with views of the ocean and my doggies favourite place for happy times.

Here's my perspective on dying loved ones, whether they be human or another species: It's an honor to help them have a good dying and death. We do the best we can to prevent suffering, and we let go with love, knowing that their love for us and our love for them never dies. Of course your dog knows you love him and what you're doing with him at this stage.

One of the worse things to deal with. Really sorry to hear.

Been in your shoes a few times brother. Got one about there now. You know when it's time to be merciful and you will wake up the next morning knowing you did the right thing.

        Luv the pic

Thanx all y'all for the kind words. I have his final resting spot picked out, top of the hill over looking a valley and creek below. The same spot I have planted other pets, right next to the little girl I lost last year. For the time being he is still going on walks with me, though he is slow instead of taking the lead, he does not seem to be in great pain but it cant fell good to be eaten from the inside. I have been giving him pork tenderloin and chicken tenderloin, I made a pumpkin bread and he ate half the loaf Thursday, yesterday he had a sausage patty (large) and french toast made from the pumpkin bread (he loves cinnamon)

His suffering is scheduled to end Friday at 10 AM

I am so sorry. Such terrible heartache comes at the end when someone (including pets!) you love passes on. Even harder when the burden is on you to decide when; a terrible decision for anyone to have to make. I am tearing up right now think of you and your companion as well as those beloved pets I have had to part with.
And he doesn't need to hear you to know you love him; he knows by your caring actions, the life you spent together, and probably your smell, too.

His time is now over, he had bacon sausage and milk for his breakfast then went outside at noon to lay in the sun for a while (one of his favs). I went out a few times to check on him, last time he could not get up and was in great pain. I called the vet and moved his appointment, may he rest in piece.
Again thanx for the kind words

            Thinking of you buddy

I really really hate that my gas furnace is not working. Came home to a frigid house yesterday after holiday with family. It was working when i left on Wed. came home friday to a very cold home. Overnight temps were in the mid 25f this morning very cold for these old bones. So holiday repair on a weekend $190.00hr. if i waited till Monday $130.00hr. No longer have a wood stove but have electricty so plugged in a couple space heater and i've got electric blanket. Guy said i need a new hot surface ignigher to ignite the gas?? Can't get it ordered till Monday of course. The joys of owning a home and all that go with it......I will learn something new. Man oh man it's frosty outside.

Good news is a hot surface ingnighter is generally not a very expensive part. Did throw a pot of water on the stove to boil? I've done that before.

Gave it up a long long time ago. Had to.

There is one drop I will still drink. Dark Praga Beer with a lovely goulash, from the tap of a Czech establishment. Worlds finest.

On the other hand all my weed is locally grown.

There is a nice chocolate liqueur available...mothers milk. Forgotten its name.

Microbrewery in a mall? IN A MALL??? That's a contradiction in terms.

Y'all kill me with your beer flavors. Don't matter what you put into it, beer is nasty. Beer, like religion, is a good idea that went awry.
Alcohol is generally nasty. Why do you think people flavor it? If y'all didn't get buzzed off yer booze, y'all'd be on first name basis with your local soda jerks instead of bartenders and dude at the package/liquor store.
Yeah. Alcohol is a solvent and poison. Should be Schedule I. Schedule II at least.

Beer saved humanity. Back in the day when most water was contaminated with bacteria and other filth and people were ignorant of why it made them sick, they drank beer to avoid getting sick. Beer was the answer to safe drinking water. The brewing process kills the nasty bacteria, settles out sludge contamination and introduces preservative qualities (hops) and a beneficial culture (yeast). There was a time when people of all ages drank beer all day in an effort to avoid the sickness that came from drinking the water.

And beer was unfiltered and full of enough stuff to be given as a meal.
Like I said, a good idea that went awry.

Beer was made by monks and some infused it with magic mushrooms to give the parishioners a 'genuine' God experience. They were doing that about 1000 years ago and that peaked around the middle ages. Yes, it was safer than drinking water a lot of the time.

The Napoleonic Wars brought an end to that religious experience, more so the mushrooms than the beer.

So drugging your victims with alcohol & psilocybin to control and manipulate them has a long history going back about 1000 years and was exploited to benefit the mostly Catholic churches of the time. They sold their beer too.

The oldest brewery ever found for the making of beer dates back about 12,000 odd years, found somewhere in the Middle East from memory.

          Beer is bad.
