    Cloning problem

    Hi all!

I’m getting some trouble trying to clone my plants. First timer here. I’ve tried with rock wool and jiffy’s, and fail on both.

I bought the king clone machine, looks pretty good.

Started 3 days ago, and one of the cuttings start to show some signs on the leaf’s (attached images). What might be causing it?

They are on a 24 hours scheme under TWO 27W Vivosun leds (the ones with three arms) at 24 inches distance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q70AVKTQR_I

Ph is at 6. Indoor temperature is 23 / 24 degrees.

Don’t know the water temperature yet.

Well i'm not a user of this gadget. I just cut a good stem at a angle and scrape the lower stem a tad not carve it just a slight scrap dip in water dip in clone gel place in soil or ph water give it CFL light or t-5 tube light and wait for the magic roots. Now this takes a few attempts to get the hang but heck if your pruning may as well practice. And good luck to you. After a while you'll get free plants well sorta free.

      Thanks!

Do you think I should prune more the next ones?

    #4
Not sure I understand " prune more the next ones " I think they actually look good and need time. My way can take up to 10 days or longer to show roots if I place in clear shot glass I can see them. But I really don't know until I see new green growth do I know if they lived. You'll sure see the droop of death floopy if they don't or just sit and rot till they turn rusty. But yours look pretty good. Some folks will make a humidity dome to not over water these if in soil but your set up if they are standing upright as yours and the bottom stems in the water. I'm thinking your OK for now.??

      Thanks! Pardon my english.

Prune more, I was trying to say to leave less leaves on the cuttings

Honestly, the most reliable method I've used are the rockwool cubes.
I just pre-soak them in my nutrient solution(full strength Jacks 3-2-1), cut the clone with sterile tools, scrape the stem and trim off excess foliage and then dip in rooting gel/powder.
Straight into the cube and they sit in a tray under my veg light. I add very little solution, just enough to have a small amount of drainage and typically have roots popping in 7-10 days.
I've done the aero cloners and bubble cloners/sp[ray cloners and they all gave me more issues than just sticking the cutting into a cube.
    WHAT???
    5x5 grow space
    900w of Vero's and F-strips
    4-17gal totes self-made UC system.

Thanks. I'm still trying to root some cuttings in rockwool, just to learn the technique as a backup plan

Its your water temps, too high. If ambient is 23-24 then your water temps are higher. This is too hot for clones.
I have a king cloner too. A small aquarium chiller (100w) will fix the issue.

Good idea. Maybe some styrofoam insulation surrounding the outside of the packs to keep them cooler longer.

I bought the amazon device. It will arrive in like a month hahaha.

I will continue trying to clone the plants now. I've read on another page that plants younger than 2 months old are difficult to clone. Maybe that could be an issue on my actual cuttings to? The mothers were 35 days old when y cut the stems.

I never had issues cloning young plants. Some strains are more difficult than others.
Congratulations on the purchase. Just make sure to get the right sized pump and tubing for your chiller. The pump has to have a flow rate with in range for the chiller.

Your clones look fine to me and I personally wouldn’t change a thing. Sometimes a cutting will show a deficiency that the mother plant could compensate for given better root structure and performance. I clone in an aeroponic cloner similar to yours and as long as they don’t visibly wilt you can expect 80%+ rooting. My opinion is not fact but rooted in my experience in my environment, please take my advice with environmental considerations. I live in the Northeast US, hot & humid in the summer, cold and dry in the winter. Given my environmental conditions I don’t pay any attention to water temps when I clone. I did when I first started growing but for me they really didn’t make a significant difference aside from them rooting a bit better in the summer when the my humidity was more ideal, but humidity and water temp are only mildly related in an aeroponic cloning environment. Some strains are stubborn and won’t show signs of rooting for 14 days but most will give 3-4 inches of roots in that time period in an aeroponic cloner.
Failure is an opportunity for improvement!!

Thank you very much. I will wait 2 or 3 days and will keep you posted

Clone King manufacturer says you can get 100% rooted. I get 95-100% on average. I make 75-100 clones per month. 80% is way below the benchmark for this particular product. High Water temps are perfect breeding grounds for anaerobic pathogens.

Remember whatever the method it takes about 10 days to make roots.
