I think on this challenge I'm still going to run soil but I'm going to up the perlite to 50%. I plan on needing to water with nutrients once a day or more. So basically will be running it like I used pure coco.

All four cups are approximately the same size.

Do you have your cup? Got a strain picked out? Are you taking a test run? The days are counting down to the 01/01/2020 start time and I'm getting excited about the Solo Cup Grow Off.
Think I got me a winning cup picked out, official size for the grow off is 18 Oz. Or less "party cup", to recap some of the questions you may grow a seed or clone both to be treated in the same fashion, cutting=germination. you can grow as many as you like but may only enter one of the plant in The final Judging Thread starting on April 1st.

Got lots to choose from!, I just have to decide what to grow. Ordered some seeds a couple of weeks ago, they got the order wrong, so they corrected it, and sent me 4 extra seeds as well My next grow will be all autos, im thinking 8 different strains all at once!

All you need to hole up your cup is a pair of redneck vise grips, a nail (not a screw), a torch, and another torch for when the first torch runs out of butane. Did mine on my front patio while watching the sunset. Only negative was when I kept putting the hot torch down on my crotch. I don't know if I've learned a lesson from that.

Roots must stay contained in your cup. You can poke holes in your cup for airflow but roots can not grow into another container/medium .

What if there's catastrophic failure of the cup? Like if cracks bust the cup open? Will transplants be allowed due to cup breakage? As similar as possible to the original. No trimming of root ball.

Mr.furley I just wanted to run this setup by you for a judgement call before I start putting everything together.

50/50 Coco/perlite mix hand fed for the first couple weeks.
I will then place the solo cup on top of a continuous feed reservoir fitted with a net pot and hydroton for drainage back into the reservoir. I plan to setup a mini trellis that I will suspend the solo cup from leaving a clear air gap between the bottom of the solo cup and the hydroton. I also plan to trim away any roots that try to make their way out of the bottom of the cup.

Would you consider this setup to be within the “Spirit” of the contest?

Then I thought I should probably scan the original thread for the challenge, I knew if I went through this whole thread I would eventually find someone who had this idea. I also want to do try a top fed DWC setup for the Solo cup. Are you still planning on going this route ?

I know I'm gonna get embarrassed this competition. I'm a huge container guy. I think 3 gallon pots are for the first 2 weeks. Lol I go to really big pots. You guys go ahead and start working on your jokes. I'm not even gonna start prepping until probably noon on the first. Lol

He actually gave a time zone. To be honest I dont think 24 hours one way or the other would give an advantage. But within the rules make it 24 hours or less after his time zone and you will be fine. If someone can win by 24 hours that would be a miracle.
