Old school not sure about led

Thinking about a 15x15 with 6x bestva 2000w led with 25-30 plants under them..am I delusional or can it be done

Hi big country, I've had great 2tote stuff. LED is all I have. 100 watt bulbs, like 10 hanging above my babies. I never had Giants buds but I grown some damn good stuff with them. Go for it.. I'm still learning my 4th yr growing lol... I can show you pictures of 3 growing now under LED if you want. These babies are 4 the week under 12/12.

      Hello,Bmw,
I would like to see those photos of your plants growing under a LED light. I plan on buying a LED to test out.
      Thanks

I tried to write each picture. I have one if them smart phones lol. I put them under 12/12 at about 26-30 inches tall. Yea they stretched. It took me a yr to figure out problems, I wasn't transplanting enough. I do have 25 clones from all 6 plants, 11 are girls.... I use bedroom with LED buy distilled water. Use Jiffy all purpose organic soil. It's light pH balanced. I don't know what to cut though. So I'll be working on that. I never have dry or dead leaves. 2tote stuff though. Good luck. Mine 100 watt bulbs.

That small plant was beginning. These are only 3 1/2 weeks. Wednesday will be 4 weeks under 12/12.

I'm old school with the hid lights but here is a rabbit hole for you
Learn how much heat, electricity and yields to expect with LED grow lights, and learn which LED companies test their lights on real cannabis plants!

I used cfl n led last couple yrs. LED lights work great. I'm just growing in a spare room fans n lights, mix of white wall n aluminum foil... lol but it works for me. Despite I have dealt with hermies but I found light leaks. Fixed that. And I was only transplanting 2 times, huge mistake. Now I have to learn trimming. I just ain't sure when it comes to cutting. I know not to cut after 3 weeks except dead stuff but I don't have anything dry or dead. I do have some 4 ft flourecent lights hoping for side, lower stuff. I learn new stuff each yr. Happy chatting. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday with family.

Bigcountry based on the actual draw of of the LEDs that you mentioned you can cover roughly 54 sq.ft., about 171 sq.ft. short of your 15x15(225 sq.ft.) area. LEDs are tough to judge based on their equivalent wattage, in your case 2000 watts, best to compare apples to apples by using actual wattage. Those Bestva 2000 watt lights are about the equivalent of a 400 watt HID at best and would cover at most a 3x3 area per light.

Have to agree with Obi-Wan. It's easier to calculate power density. 225 sq ft X 30w/sq ft(minimum for efficient diodes)=6750 watts of actual power consumption. Because the diodes found in Bestva or any other blurple fixture are at best equal to HPS output you will need 50w/ sq ft to achieve optimum light intensity. That's 11250 watts to cover your 15x15...you'll need 28 of those Bestva's to do the job. I think I'd pass.

Thanks to all for the feedback. But I'm not sure I explained myself correctly. My grow room is 15x15 but the space the lights and plants will reside in a 12x8 which is 96 sf.which calls for 4800w so that would put me at a 7200w surplus

This seems to be where most people are confused about how some led manufacturers describe their fixtures. DO NOT look at equivalent ratings(as in it's a 2000w lamp). The only useful metric is ACTUAL power consumption. If the fixture uses older tech diodes common in 'blurple' type lights, they need the SAME power density as your old faithful HPS rig(that's 50w/ sqft). Current tech diodes(lm561c, lm301b) need about 30w/sqft to achieve the same light output.

The actual wattage draw of those lights is 390 watts. They call it a 2000 watt light because it uses 200-10 watt LEDs. It does not use 2000 watts nor does it put out 2000 watts of equivalent lighting. It’s just 200-10 watt LEDs being driven at 1.95 watts per LED. 6 of these lights can reasonably cover a 9x9 space, I would suggest at least 9 for a 12x8 area.

Ok I have a question, if these are 10 w and only driven @ 1.95 w, what happens if they are driven at 100% or the full 10 watts? Will it just toast them faster? Or?

                    #13
Yes they will burn out quicker because they will create more heat than the cooling fins can dissipate. This particular manufacturer claims a 100,000 hour lifespan based on driving the LEDs at 20% of their rated capacity.

So your saying that 6 lights will cover a 9x9 but to cover just 14 sf more I'll need 3 more 2000w lights
