Harvesting Sativa

I just grew my first two sativas, had done 3 indicas before that. I asked a similar question here and had one plant at 60-70% cloudy (Nebula), one at 10-20% cloudy (Jack Mist) The Nebula has a real nice buzzy head high. The Jack Mist is similar but stronger.
Edit: I should've said this was when I harvested trying to get a more head / energetic high. As Toker1 said, it depends on what you want

The word “best” is subjective. Meaning no single answer will work for every one.
Personally when I start to see Amber, I harvest. Not a big fan of couch lock. If I was... I would wait until I saw more amber.4x4 600w HID empty for summer
3x3 400w HID with Bruce Banner and Skywalker Kush
2x2 65w Quantum Board LED with 4 mother strains
running all simultaneously for a perpetual harvests.

Well...in my experience yes. Now mind that I have never grown pure sativia. I have only grown sativia domenent hybrids. The more ambers...the more THC degrades into CBN. This increases the couch lock effect.

But some Sativas never turn amber: https://www.growweedeasy.com/guide-t...trains-indoors

UI have never grown land race sativia... but I know how long it takes to flower them. Do you think possibly that people just can’t wait long enough for amber?
In the article, it said things like “may never turn amber” and “almost all white”. I’m not 100% convinced... but just because I have never seen it, doesn’t mean I am unwilling to learn.
I also know that a 12-12 light schedule can mess with a landrace sativa flower cycle. Check out the longer nights the places near the equator get in the winter. 12 hours of darkness may not be enough to force the plant into developing into amber, because that never actually happens near the equator in winter time.
Of all the sativia dominant dominant plants I have ever grown, every single one has gone amber at the end for me.
Sometimes when it takes way too long... I increase the hours of darkness to 10 on and 14 off. Or even 9 on and 15 off. After that...they amber up real fast on all strains I have ever grown.
In Durbin Africa (famous for the landrace dirbin poision) winter begins in June. The 12-12 light schedule happens for about 2 weeks in March. The remainder of May through winter gets significantly less daylight hours.
So if you grow this landrace sativa strain and are doing the traditional 12-12, the plant is still experiencing the same duration of time as end of summer in daylight hours.Last edited by Toker1; 03-26-2019, 04:10 PM.

Yes, one of the nice benefits of using the trichomes is- you can balance out any strain you like!
If indicas are too couch lock- harvest earlier.
if a sativa is to heady- harvest later.
I will post criteria, some commercial growers use, once I get home.
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

Usual harvest trichome percents:
Clear 5-10%
Cloudy 70-80%
Amber 5-10%

Awesome info! Also good to note that on larger plants, the top half will mature faster than the lower half of the plant does. So when you have cloudy on top, might be clear on the lower buds. I noticed for the majority of my strains, once the first amber appeared on top... the entire lower half had become cloudy.

My very first grow from seed had a sativa girl! She flowered for around 4 weeks longer than the indicas did & her flowers were not nearly as large or dense, but there were LOTS of them! I had no idea what I was doing back then and let her get way too tall for my grow room and ended up doubling her branches over sideways which was actually using lst but I didn.t know it at the time. I did not measure anything at the time either so I have no idea of the weight of my final harvest, but I smoked that shit for nearly a year! It tasted like shit but it was some kick ass weed! My guess would be 3 to 5 weeks more than an indica. I can't help with tric colors because I didn't know enough to look at trics at the time!If weed is healthy...why am I so broken down?
