    air stone question

I have air stones in my res and they came out covered in slime ,I took them off and cleaned them with h202 and water ,now here is my question how can I really clean these they are looking clean but have a decreased air flow , I used a stiff brush .I'm thinking wire or even sand paper but I thought I would ask first

I dont know that this applies, but, when I did fish tanks I had to replace the air stones every so often. Never thought of trying to clean them,,,I;m watching,,,

Well I guess I can’t ask you the same question oldjarhead lol. I’ve been running into issues trying to get stones to flow evenly. Had a few new out of box that didn’t seem to put out much flow compared to the same kind in the other grow modules. I’ve tried soaking them, brushes and hitting them with compressed shop air and got nothing different so just tossed them in trash.

I use the 4 inch flat air stones and every few grows they clog with salts I soak mine in vinegar for a week or so then in plain water with air running through for a wile changing the-water and check ph and make sure the vinegar is gone

Howdy oldjarhead100, When I clean the air stones, I soak them in hydrogen peroxide (full strength) for several hours or overnight, then rinse them and then soak them overnight in distilled vinegar overnight to remove any mineral deposits. Do not use bleach as it is almost impossible to completely remove the bleach from the stones and boiling them will not completely clean the but will melt the hose attachment. I do not bother cleaning the now as I found a place where I can get the 2 inch by 4 inch stones for $2 each, it is much easier to replace them and not to worry whether they are clean or not.

The instructions I'm using with an additional air stone I put in my reservoir during the day says, Clean it once a month. I will soak mine in water and 35% H2O2 overnight and scrub with a brush.

I was thinking about this and I had an idea I had put one of my air injectors (1/4 inch soaker hose) under water and was amazed at how much it defused the air ,now I have a new use for them just have to add some weight to hold them down lol

This was one of the primary reasons I decided to ditch the stones/airpump and use waterfalls instead. After constantly fighting maintenance/defective parts and trying not to inject any more heat into my system, waterfalls solved all of those problems.

Good ideas LMAO I only ever used my water pump for my drip feed lol same size tubes fit the water pump and the airline so I just stuck them in a 3nliter container plugged them into my water pump did a little sm90 think I put in like 30 ML for a 3 liter bucket over killed it but it's supposed to help clean water lines so I said fuck it plugged them in for a day and let the water pressure push out and clean as much as it can seemed to do the job just fine for me so probably gonna continue that way for awhile

Also I should say I rigged my drip feed system to connect all 6 things on the drip hub so I had actual water pressure comeing out of the stone had to do one stone at a time tho or it seemd so weak that I felt it wouldn't do anything
