    Investing in CDM/LEC/CMH lighting?

    Hello everyone,
currently im running a 600w hps and I’m thinking to treat myself for Christmas and buy cmh light system.
I have a 1m x 1m space. My biggest worry is the heat it generates. I read a few articles they say they run cool but how cool is that? At the moment I’ve got an aircooled hood and I can keep my growarea around 22-23celsius.
I didn’t see any aircooled cmh light system, I think it’s because of the wide spectrum they cannot block uv with a piece of glass. I’d like to get rather 2x315 fixture than a 630 in one.
Ive seen a few fixtures with built in fans, I think I’d prefer something like that. Have you got any experience with these lighting systems? Can you offer some really cool fixtures?
Another important question, some people been talking on videos that this is just such an amazing light, much better quality at the end. Is that true?

The little lady that hosts this site sold me on the CMH. https://www.growweedeasy.com/lec-gro...tal-halide-cmh I would say less heat than a 600 watt HPS. I own them both.

630w will run hotter than 600w when compared watt to watt. They do make air cooled CMH/LEC fixtures. Be ready to spend top $$ though.
This CMH technology is full of industry hype. Your 600w MH/HPS system is just as efficient.
I went thought these same motions myself. Ended up spending way less on a UV bulb system to supliment my HPS bulb. Been getting great results with that so far at a fraction of the price.
here is an AC LEC.for just under a grand. This allows the heat to build in the bulb (allowing proper spectrum) but removes heat before it effects your grow room.

I have no experience with CDM/LEC lights but I have two 340 w lights about 1' apart in a 3.5x6' grow space and have a fan that blows across both the ballasts/power supplies and the lights themselves. If the lights were in a larger space the heat would dissipate better but in my small space I need the fans to keep the temp below 80 F. There's a second fan blowing the heat out the front side of the grow space too. The lights have "fins" that dissipate the heat, but in a small enclosed space that only does so much good_ then you have to adapt!

It's hard to beat a 600watt Hps, imo.
But I got my 315cmh in a small tent ,36x36x63inches, and my temps have never got above 78degrees, a 600watt hps did though, it went up to 84degrees, but I also got a good fan an exaust in there too.
I got my light from GrowersChoice ,it dims down to 145watts, and then up to 345watts, with several more settings in between.
Sun Sytems makes another good light too,
But if I was gonna buy a new one tomorrow, I'd buy the new EyeHortilux, one that just came out. Just because their bulbs-lamps are so good.
Check out EyeHortilux before you buy one, great products.
oldjarhead100 just bought a Prism 630, he's got it on a light mover, but he ain't had it long enough I don't think yet ,to say how well it works , maybe when he gets up in the morning, he will tell you how he likes it, but I bet he likes it alot though.
            I know I like my 315,
Good Luck with whatever you get, just make sure you get good lamps-bulbs for it.

Same results for me when I went up from 340 to 680 watts.....Temps went up to 85 and I had to put another fan in the room to blow the hot air out. Temps are perfect now 68-78 F.

one thing I noticed when I switched to my 630 cmh the heat difference worried me so I left the 6 inch inline set up and I found the if I run the fan for a half hour 3 times a day it keeps the heat down to about 75 all day
Check out Growershouse.com I got my prisim 630 for 239 and I think if you asked Nate he might give you the same deal

oldjarhead100 .thanks for that information, if I had room, I'd surely use a 630cmh, too, but we ain't got the room, lol
Yeah, I've talked to Nate, several times, very helpful guy, for sure.
GrowersChoice and Growershouse, are very closely related, they work together all the time, so I guess the right word is affiliated, lol, I've bought lamps from both places, and when one of them were out ,they told me to call the other one
                  Have a nice day bro.

Thank you everyone for the inputs. To be honest I’m not really convinced to change my light setup, I’m quite happy with the mh/hps setup I have. So many people have achieved very good results with it. ( I also don’t have the spare 1000$ for a quality cmh light at the moment) I was amazed by Nebulas grow review with the 315cmh that’s why I looked into the subject and asked your opinion too.

I wish to see some buds comparison between hps and cmh.

In the future I’ll definitely change but my current setup is very new.

Is there a scientific link between light spectrum and terpen production?

Those who changed from hps setup to cmh, do you see a significant improvement in buds? (Smell, structure, effect, maybe thc level) id like to see some budporn

i know that not everything depend on your light setup but I hope you know how I mean it )))

Do you switch to MH for the last 2 weeks of your grow? Or supplement with UV? There has been plenty of research suggesting that the UV spectrum improves THC oil production at the cost of yield.
If you are interested I have a small tent grow that I am experimenting with direct UV... I have red t5 sidlighting. I am switching them out for UV bulbs tonight. I will blast the UV for 15 min increments every 2 hours (in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations).

So I got off to a late start on this journal. The strain is white buffalo by king Klone’s blu line up. I am using fox farm happy frog x fox farm ocean

Budler I switched to a 630 cmh from a 1000w hps the cmh was a fraction of the cost . Anyways My journal The Next Round is updated often you can see for yourself compare it to any of the other Journals , I originally had it in a 5x5 tent hung stationary then I built a new grow room so I put the 1000 hps on a light mover, I kept wearing out my roller and drive wheels so I figured it was to heavy , I haven't had one issue since I switched

Hey Bud, I have a Sun 315 in a 4x4x80 that runs low 70's 24-7. As far as the difference in results keep an eye on the Great auto showdown thread going on around here, I'm sure there are several lec grows, and hps as well. In the next few months there should be lots of pics. Like they say proof's in the pudding.
