Decided to make the switch from HID to LED. Heat and energy costs are the reasons I’d want to. I grow in a 2 x 4 tent with 600w. I’d like to keep it at 600w. What are you guys using in that niche and what would you recommend?

I'm leaving the burple led's behind next year and have purchased the following for a 2x4 tent:
1 Optic1 xl: https://growlightcentral.com/product...4aArf9EALw_wcB
1 Chilled logic puck v2 (dimmable): https://www.rapidled.com/single-100w...6-968c3296b562

A watt is a watt is a watt. It can directly be translated into BTU’s. It’s a form of heat and it doesn’t matter what the source of light is.
Its a misconception that LED’s outperform HID with energy consumption. Plus air cooled HID technology runs cooler than LED heat sink technology.4x4 600w HID empty for summer
3x3 400w HID with Bruce Banner and Skywalker Kush
2x2 65w Quantum Board LED with 4 mother strains
running all simultaneously for a perpetual harvests.

Just because HID bulb temp is decreased when air moves across surface doesn't mean heat radiation of the bulb got lower. Air movement has almost no effect on heat radiation.

Ok. So yes, if you ignore all other sources you are correct. However, this is reality not just a theory. Radiant heat is not the only form that exists here.
So to mathematically explain this...Y being temperature inside your grow room Y = f(x1) + f(x2) + f(x3) + f(x4)....and so on.
The conclusion is that Y is not just a function of one x in your grow room.Last edited by Toker1; 12-14-2018, 12:08 PM.

The electrical or photon efficiency has a direct influence on the amount of energy that a system produces as light and heat. The higher the efficiency, the less heat is produced. As more light is being used for light. LEDs efficiency in comparison to gas discharge are typically about the same. With only the higher end and more expensive products actually prove to be more efficient. So it can be considered as far as heat production, that watt for watt they will produce the same amount of heat.

Im happy to say I got one of those HLG 3k for flowering and its doing amazing. I also have a small 65w HLG in my seedling tent that I am testing out and seems to be going well.
I use autocobs as well which I can easily ratchet down and up depending on canopy. I use a ratchet system with the q boards as well to make them like the autocobs and its working well

How's it going? I'm now on here and I'm kind of just making my presence known.
When I was using a 2 x 2 1/2 foot closet I was using a 1000W equivalent blurble LED that someone gave me. I'm not sure of the brand, but If you have enough room to keep the lights high enough it works well. I had to give up on that though and move into the spare room so I can grow my plants in better conditions. But for 2 x 4 feet 600W should do you right fine.

so I will try an experiment next year, since my country is 12/12 - 13/11 almost all year I want to get some lights to help the veg stage of my plants, I want to get some LED, but all my research end with high wattage lights because they use the light for indoor growing for veg and bloom stages, since I will let the sun do most of the job I just need a light to turn on for 4 to 6 hours at night, preferably less than 50W, does anyone have a recomendation? or should I get a CFL bulb?Pura Vida!!

I see, I don't really want to buy something expesive because I will not really use it, as I'm doing outdoor so CFL could be the cheapest solution to extend the light hours, I have seen some cheap grow LED on amazon but its red, blue or a combination of both, so I don't know, anyway thank you

You get enough sun during the day for the plant- what is being accomplished by having an outside light is:
To interupt the flowering process to keep the plants in veg for a longer period.
Your outside light doesn't need to be on for 4-6 hours, as it's not really getting any useful light to the plant canopy.
Greenhouses will keep night time lights on for longer periods, for the added benefit of heat produced by the lights.

9fingerleafs so my idea was not crazy after all, I need to do that, thank you!
Weed Pharma that is exacly what I want, extend the veg time so the plant can grow bigger
