    Grow Journal of sorts

Hey, is it a good idea to top this one a little? Read that that will help even it all out.

MrHappy81 , You need to put a wire around your stalk ,at the bottom where it meets the soil, and tie it to your pot, so your plant doesn't get pulled up,
What kind of plant is she, ?an auto? Or photo?
You might want to read Nebulas tutorial on plant training, she tells you all you need to know ,and then some.
    GoodLuck

I have had a feel of it. There doesn't appear to be to mucc strain on the stalk, i was concerned about that though. I'm growing Northern light, photo.

Hey MrHappy81 welcome and good growing buddy!

What D.A.A.S.69 said about the bottom of the stalk is true,as the plant grows and you tie it in other places as well the stalk will move around and get pulled, causing some stress that could be avoided.

Depending on what you want to do (manifold, mainline, fluxing,LST or ScrOG the main/top cola should be topped differently and in different times/places.

If you are asking if she is old enough to be cut,yes she is,any photoperiod plant above the 3rd node can be cut with close to 0 stress, given that it is being taken care of correctly.

    EDIT

Also MrHappy topping doesn't even anything out. If you just top and leave it you will have the same result as before only with 2 colas now competing for the top of the Feed/Light chain.

Topping requires foresight.Meaning you need a plan laid out in your head or even better on a notebook of what you are going to do with the plant to get more out of your space, your lights, your plant itself and the experience

Topping for mainlining and manifolding with the topping for scrog can be different depending on the height of your screen and don't forget, you chop all growth under some nodes in the first two methods.Fluxing is like learning to fillet a fish, surgeons accuracy needed.

Topping to get just two rather big colas and let the rest compete under LST is also a plausible option that requires less of your attention and only a few cuts or maybe even one.

Hey Nartek thank you for that info, its really helpful. I am going to support the base as you both recommended. I do admit that the lst didn't go as i wanted, as in the bend isn't where i originally entended. I have the plant held down to one side and have topped the top of the main stem to get 2 colas. I am also letting additional ones grow from the stem upwards from the side of the main stem. Once these grow i will LST them, i counted about 8 new colas altogether that i can get. I have a plan in my head and its sort of going to plan, it may need altered as i go along. I have been following nebulas techniques as far as is reasonably practicable for plant training amd what i can snip of to help encourage new growth. I will update pics of progress. So far plant is growing well each day. A good bit of noticable growth each day.

People is it just me and the Burple leds or is that silver lines on the leaves?

You have done a nice job. If you check out Green75 on the forum you will see how he does his lst, with a fat coated wired and just shoves it directly in the soil.Requires a longer piece but allows you to get the specific angle required for a flat canopy. She's a little skinny ...

Can you post your Lights/Soil/Pot Size/Nutes and Light Schedule, also the strain you are growing so we can all have a better idea of what we are looking at as this journal progresses ?

      Hi there everyone,
So after much thought which as a smoker you know would of been a long deep one! I have managed to think of something to write about my growing experience so far after Nartak mentioned my set up.

I had a wee bit of an idea what to get due to some research. I got a grow tent kit 40x40x140 due to size of cupboard area available. Could only find one place for it so got full kit inc soil/nutes. The fan was to loud and the tent zip broke so got replacement tent from suppier which i still have. I had to doctor tent to fit size 35x40x140 as cupboard door wouldn't shut! (See pics for set-up) I have to keep it discreet due to legality in Scotland!
I ordered a Northern lights strain as my wife wanted that as our first , well more told!! I chose a photo type as I read you have more time to LST and save it if something goes wrong! Also read was a good first timer strain.
I germinated seed the kitchen towal method then planted in soil (see pic for type 6.5ph) i kept the light on it 20/4 light schedule temp about 30°-32° 70% humidity and it grew quick. I was a bit concerned about using a 300w full spectrum LED unbranded as thought a bit much but it worked fine. Kept a good temp when on. Kept this going for 1-2 weeks. Then took out of propagator, used a mounted fan for a breeze then changed to 18/6 schedule. It grew well through night section, noticably.
I then changed my set-up to get temp down as to high at 32°! Set-up extraction from tent (see pics) and used a tube heater. I then installed an intake vent upto top of tent to collect warmed air. Grow tent stays at 25°-26° and about 19° at night. Humidity about 45 to 55, it took alot of jigging and time to get temp and humidity just right but worth it.
The LST didnt go as I planned but plant growing well with about 8 new colas growing, i plan more once they grow a bit, i have limited space so need to get right amount. The stock isn't as vertical as I'd like but have to go with what i grow. I am supporting it as much as i can thanks to some great advicr from you guys, im sure it will be a success with your continued support!

Brother you need to really take the time and read Nebulas site and tutorials on LST if thats what you are set on doing and read her Veg and Flowering tutorials. Trust me you will be glad you did. I as well as everyone else here have learned buckets of info and raw knowledge from the site, very helpful and insiteful

Low Stress Training , Cycles and have a good read on this Getting Started .

Flowering time is from the moment pistills grow into forming buds (Previous period is called pre-flowering,usually occurs after the switch to 12/12 and last 1-3 weeks) . Used by breeders it means that in that time frame it will complete it's flowering cycle and be commercially ready for harvest.Usually needs 1-3 weeks more to ripen and hit the resin/terpene profile peak.

Vegging is the period between 2nd node and pre-flowering.
Usually there is no notice on the veg period because in photoperiods it depends on the grower and in autos it depends on the environment and day cycles.

An autoflower can go up to 4 months outdoors yet we make it in 70-90days indoors by controlling the time it spends in light and in dark.

        Hi,
Thank you for all your input, i am reading through Nebulas tutorials on vegging stage and LST. I understand what is required upto a point. I see thatypu veg your plant for as long as you need to till grown to half the height wanted then change light cycle. I just need to decide when that is as not alot of space. I still have alot of horizontal space to fill.
My girl needs watered about every 3 days. I am needing to water again tonight. There has been a good bit of growth since last water and pictures.

Hey man,i don't remember is this an auto? If so you prolly wont make it all the way horizontally before she flowers! If not ,you can use the stretch after the flip to get her even more horizontal but then you should clear out a bit of growth on the lower levels because she wont get light all the way down!

Every 3 days is the optimal schedule if you are going for the 10% runoff method!
She looks happy, keep it up buddy and keep it green!

If you wont transplant again into a bigger pot then in a while, when she hit the sides of the pot fllip her, keeping in mind she will ~double in size...

Yes training plants and being with them is very therapeutic for me also,i think i also get a buzz from the lights but oh well, win win

Hey everyone, so thought would update on my progress so far. It has been going very well, water every 4 days, half nutes each time with 10% run off. Water draining through well. Her main stalk is getting big and thick now, the LSTing has been fun to do and watch her grow the way I want. The nutes are being taken well and see vast growth. I trimmed her back a little to allow light through into the parts I wanted to encourage growth at. Its visible each day in the pics the lovely growth thats come from this. Im amazed how good they grow. I need to purchase a tomatoe cage so i can use wire to help support her once i get to the light flip amd have something inplace and ready. 😀

So an update, my girl is growing well. The LST is going good, getting her flat and wide. Still half soil grow nutes for now, 2ml per ltr. Gsve 4ltrs last nite with 10-15% run off. I have included pictures of the LST'd growth. Have around 12 colas. Wondering wether to top before flip? I am restricted by space. I know when growing the buds they need space for air flow and fattening up.
