    Upgrading to HID

I've been growing for the last 8-9 months with led's and I really like the resin production and growth...but

I average .70 grams per watt with LED, so I'm doing well but I can't shake the feeling that I could be getting more efficient yields with HID. A lot of this is based on my reading of GWE, so I open the the topic to the group. I just harvested 10 oz. from a 3x3 under 405 actual watts LED. Should I make the switch??

Got my eye on the 315 too....it fits the footprint of my tent but at an xtra $100 for upfront cost. I was thinking of buying a dimmable 600w hps and firing it at 3/4 in my 3x3 then I'd I upgrade the tent I have a light to match. Just trying to work through the decision in my head. I

I would take a very critical look at what you are trying to do.
You are getting good yields, product, at a very low cost. I use LED's and my cost is just around $1 per gram which no light can compare for the amount I need/use/grow.

My point is, if you want "bragging rights"- go ahead and pay for it.
People in general, will promote what they use- to validate their choice or use what they know without venturing into LED's.

Each growing environment is different, so everyone's results will vary-

I didn't have much choice in my condo but extremely satisfied with the LED results and especially the low, low cost.
I much prefer the lower costs of operation and temperature control etc..
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

True true, I was going to switch over to hps today but I don't know I'm thinking about the cost of electricity I'm doing good with the LED so I'm saying to myself why change I was all for it till I got up this morning so I'm going to just let it stay the way it is with the LED , every grow is different and if u getting good yields with LED why change ,,

No sh-t redbeard they dang sure grow dense , heavy ,sticky nugs. Surprised the dog out of me, I have always grown outdoors and I saw Nebulas article about some cat I can't remember his name but it's in GWE using one of those gh300 and he got I can't remember again but something like 5or 6 ozs, from an auto I think, so I said what the hell an got one and ordered some seeds from Nirvana, and my NLAUTO must have been shot up with steroids or something cause I got, I should have looked so I could remember exactly but over 6 ozs dry of fine bud. It's been curing a little over 2 months now. Mine ain't the kind you can plug another one into, it's got 2 fans, can't even tell it on your bill. Redbeard, man I'm sorry I'm high as hell an ain't nobody around just a rambling

        I just upgraded to a 4x4x6.5 tent for 79$

a dimmable 600w MH/HPS with ballast and glass cool tube for 179$

the exhaust and carbon filter are 179$ as well just haven't bought that yet.

so far everything I bought had great reviews and works great for me. I'd definition recommend going with a dimmable 600w though. Just like you were saying, in case you upgrade to a bigger tent you have a light to match. Happy growing man πŸ€™πŸΌπŸ€™πŸΌ

Thanks for the responses everyone. I do like my leds and they have grown some fine bud for my wife and I. I should have provided a little more info in my first post. Our goal is to grow 3 lbs. per year, this covers our own personal consumption and would allow us to occasionally be generous to our close friends. I currently use 2-3x3x6 flower tents with a total of 757 true watts between both tents. The tents are offset by 30 days and have produced 19 ounces of dried flower with the 2 recent harvests combined. So now that we are on track to reach our initial goal, my new goal is to make my grow space more efficient so I can reach my goal in fewer harvests, thus allowing me to turn the lights off for a few months.

My last grow with 600W HPS I got 0.8g per Watt from total power draw including fans etc and 0.9G per watt when calculating using just Light power draw.

I ended up with 567g of bud at 82c per gram when taking into account all grow costs (except initial setup cost) including power, water, nutrients, grow medium etc.

0.7g per watt is pretty good for an LED, if it meets your needs then I wouldn't worry about changing and having to learn to dial in your grow space again. Plus if you get something like a 600/1000W HPS your fan/ventialation system may need adjusting/upgrading etc.
