def sysmptoms = too much led wattage??

I have a plant issue in my bloom tent, leaf symptoms of a deficiency, brown spots, crispy spots and tips. My pH stays at 5.9 in a gravity drip system using distilled water with weekly supplemental hand waterings of fox farms nute solution (1/4 strength) plus CaMg and hydro guard in fox farm soil. I don't add the solution until a plant has spent two weeks in soil. Never had a problem but I recently switched up lights from less then 400 watts of LED light to 900w (600w + 300w panels in a 3x3' tent). I'm starting to wonder if the real issue is light/heat stress from too much LED light. Temps stay under 80 with circulating and exhaust fans. I was worried it was a nute lock out but pH is good and I haven't added excessive nutes, I have added enough nutes to know its not from a true nute deficiency. Thoughts???

Please post a few pics- of:

the entire plant preferably with the "bad" leaves still on.
    The leaves in question
    the LED's in question
    the grow room setup
    the strains involved
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

Dnk Tnk having same issues after increasing from 2 300 watt led to 1500 watt led. Only difference is my tent is a 4x4x7 ft. Same nutes and soil. No Ph problem. Will be watching for advice but I believe it to be the light. Hope not.

Well, I will take a shot at this- with the info we have so far.

No- it's not too much light as I run a 2'x4'x7' tent with 720 total (led) watts which generate heat @847 btu's, to keep it about 80 degrees.

Most likely, when you changed from the lower wattage to the much higher wattage- you did not adjust the distance for the increased penetration that comes with the 600w LED.
As far as the leaf symptoms- without more information, it's almost impossible to tell what you should do- if anything at all.

As a side note- I bought two LED's - one twice as strong @480w, yet the manufacturer had the same distances for veg @18-24" and I immediately fried most from a crop of new seedlings- that had been under the same light but lower wattage @ 240w.
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

I had two apollo horticulture 300w panels (one 5w one 3w diodes) however for awhile now, only one row of light still worked on the older panel. . I replaced the broken 300w panel with a 600w Viparspectra and left the functioning 300w panel in. This is around the time I started showing leaf symptoms on my Misty Kush and Jock Horror ladies, but not white widow or ice. I do keep the panels slammed up against the ceiling so it's not that they are too close. It's likely a variety of factors in play causing the sysmptoms. The increased levels of light would've made the plants use nutes faster, intitiating symptoms in weakest plants and problem persisted bc I didn't address the real problem of too much light, I believe now that 900w of LED is too much for a 3x3' area without supplementing co2 and additional nutes. I turned the 300w panel off a day ago leaving the 600w on. I suspect things should improve. 720 isn't quite as much as 900 plus the light coverage is different in a 2x4 vs a 3x3 when you account for multiple panels.

Yes Viparspectra's have a very high penetration- which has little to do with total wattage.

With their new 1200 PAR series, (at a larger grow)- I was able to dial down the penetration, as well as, move it much further away (than the manufactures recommended distance) from the plants initially, until they got accustomed to it.
Does your 600w allow you to dial down? Otherwise, you may continue having problems if you can not move the LED away.

At any rate, you wouldn't want to increase additional nutrients as LEDs require much less and the corresponding increased in transpiration would cause an increase in nute uptake as they need more water.

I agree with GangaGed: What distance do you have them at?

It's not the dimmable pro series, just has had blue & red switches. Slammed to the ceiling in a 36"x36"x72" tent basically, with 24-36" plants in 3 gallon smart pots. The sysmptoms are effecting the shorter strain plants actually (misty Kush the worst, Ice is moderately showing signs) I think white widow is heartier Bc it's the tallest and not really showing symptoms.

What's the distance from the top of your plants to your lights ?? What is the actual draw from your lights at the wall?? Led company's want to say 600 watts for instance when their actual draw is like maybe 200watts. For a 3x3 tent if you were using hps lights around 600 watts would do a good job .But I know some folks who use 1000watt hps in their 3x3 tents but they also have chillers and everything else to help with heat. Some good pictures would help.

The light is between 24-36" above canopy

Are the plants that are suffering symptoms under the 600w?I've used the same light in my 3x3 tent with an added 300w light before and the plants directly under the light were stunted while the plants under my 300w grew just fine. I moved the light to a closet with 8' ceilings and set it at 45" and the plants have responded well. If your light has separate veg and bloom switches like mine you could also try using only one at a time. I've found I can lower the light if only using one switch.
Failure is an opportunity for improvement!!
