Hi! I'm loving all the great info and articles here. Your writing is so explanatory and fun to read. I'm confused about your GH nutrient chart vs. articles on the site. Your chart states, don't adjust ph til after nutrients added. Articles on the site recommend adjust ph before nutrients. Which is it? Really enjoy your site! Thanks for putting it together for us newbies!

I adjust the pH down to 6.0 then add in the nutrients, then test the pH again, and adjust as needed. The city water has a lot of well water in it making it a little on the 'hard' side and this can vary, so I always test it first. I use the 'Maxi' series of dry nutrients and have had very good results (following their directions).

Question. If you test your water before adding in the nutrient and it tests right on the money, how much deviation will the nutrient make. Example my water tests 6.2, then I add half strength FF Big Bloom, how will that alter the pH. Do the nutrients have a major impact on the pH? I had no pH nutrients with my last (and first) grow, but then I wasn't using much added nutrients. I plan on using the Fox Farm trio next grow. Will this have a major or minor impact on my pH?

As Green75 Royal and my hydro folk say PH AFTER you add nutrients plus whatever. You cannot pH up and down. One or the other. If you mess up start fresh.

Got it. I just meant I better buy both in case I need to go up or down. If you mess up, makes sense to start over. Thank you dear!

Interesting. I always adjusted PH before adding nutrients because FF Big Bloom tints the water and I wasn't sure if that would effect my readings. I use drops and color chart, not a meter.

Excellent oint about drops. Have to disagree with Greenie Once the clear is tinted/tainted the read is off. That's why I love the lueLab pH pen. Solved many problems 4 me

My water here tests from 7.25 to 7.50 pH out of the tap. I have not used the FF nutrients, but the GH Maxi brings it down enough that in lower amounts (in the seedling stage), I do not need to make any adjustments to the pH. When I use greater amounts, I usually have to adjust the pH up to the 6.0 range (hydroponic). At nutrient full strength of 1 1/2 tsp per gallon, I use approximately 3/8 to 1/2 tsp of pH Up.

Always pH after you add everything, right before you give water to your plants. The idea is to give water to your plants that is a certain pH, because plants are best able to absorb nutrients in a certain pH range. If you add more supplements that make your water the incorrect pH, then your roots aren't getting what they need. Even if nutrient water has been sitting for a while (for example if you mixed it days ago), you should still check the pH again right before you give it to your plants in case it's drifted over time. I hope that clears it up!

Where on the website does it say to pH the water before adding nutrients? I'm really surprised to hear that, and that needs to be fixed immediately!
