When to top ?

Hi all
plants are coming along nicely now, and it's soon time to top, it's got 4 node's at moment but I've never topped one before and I'm a bit worried I'll mess it up any tips anyone

I top when they have 5 nodes - and take everything off down to the third node - just be careful that you leave the little shoots that are developing beside that third node.

Now is fine. Just get the tip. Very very hard to kill a plant. Assuming not an auto.

There are many options and techniques:
You can top at anytime- really- I wouldn't top before the 3rd node.

Auto's top just fine- I top them @ the 4-5th node at the latest, which gives me 8-10 cola's and an even canopy.
Any earlier and auto's wouldn't get enough bud sites- unless you were doing LST additionally- a manifold, etc..
