what am i doing wrong!!(seeds)

for the life of me i cant get any seeds to sprout it tried all the tried and true methods
they are old seeds and bag seed but you would think they would sprout at least 1/4 of them

stumped:doubtful:
 
How are You trying to sprout Your seeds? A 'step by step' description would be helpful to see (or read lol) what You might be doing wrong. I have had some of my seeds (bag seed) for years and have a reasonable germination rate (75 - 90 %).
I would try to help, but, need some details.
 
I agree a walkthrough of your methods woild really help. I'm a new grower myself and have tried germinating seeds 3 different ways. Out of the 8 seeds 7 germinated. Its just got to be something small thats stopping yours from germinating. Maybe too wet or too cold.

Also a good trick with seeds especially older ones is to put them in a match box with a small piece of sandpaper glued to the inside bottom of the box and shake it up. Not all crazy like just enough to rough up the seed surface. The sandpaper roughs up the surface for easier germination. It allows moisture to penetrate the seed better.

Howdy UrbZ, that 'roughing up' of the seed coat allows moisture to 'absorb' better, I use a pre soak (30 min.) solution of pH'ed 5.0 water with one teaspoon of FloraKleen solution. I have found that a period in the deep freezer will help the germination rate as well.
 
I've read about a few other people doing that method. My uncle always used the matchbox trick. Just popped into mind when I read the post. I've not had to do either yet. I've just done straight to the soil twice and cup of water with maxicrop seaweed into plate clamshell once.

Good look on the tip though. Always nice to have a few more weapons in your arsenal for trivial times.
 
Ok I tried the water glass method put in a warm place 24 hrs and nope
the paper towel method I think they just drown I wet my paper towel drained excess folded put in plate and under another plate warm place and nope
stuck them in jiffy pellets soaked the pellets drained excess and nope

again im stumped
the two I did grow turned out male I have one little seedling that took a week to emerge and ai;t too strong and one that grew it’s first leaves and no real leaves
it’s still growing with none lol
 
Get better seeds, if all they are are bag seed stuff from probably Mexico. I'd ditch em. Your wasting your good energy.
 
Haha yeah I figure we pamper her a bit much when we take it in to our own hands. Happy wife happy life situation... Except with plants.

Camk try extending your time soaking the match box roughs up and softens the seed shell ,

I believe that seed shells get harder as they age, so if you try to sprout them the could take up to a week to pop

I have a bag of seeds from rag weed but thats what I started with and it took forever for the seeds to pop

I use the paper towel method, I use a plastic can cover put the 4 or 6 paper towels on it, soak ,then hold sideways to let excess run off , Then I slide it on top of my cable box( there is about 3/4 of an inch space between the box and the shelf over it , I check them 3 or 4 times a day to make sure they dont dry out.

If they need water I bring the whole thing to the sink and hold under faucet for about 1 second , about 1/2 a shot glass of water then put them back on the cable box

I have had seeds that I purchased take awhile , I would give it a week before I started to worry, especially with bag seed, just make sure the paper towel stays moist not dripping wet and they will pop

This grow I started some old seed I have from a mistake ( Had a Male plant didn't catch it in time lol). anyways one of the strains I really like so I keep growing it and some of those seeds took a week to pop

This next statement caused quite a stir on the forum but Jorge Cervantes says in his book that you can influence the sex of a plant by introducing outside condition, one time I followed his directions and I got 7 out of 10 females my friend did 10 and only got 2 females with out doing anything so I know it works

the reason i was looking at elev8 for seeds is because they have harlequin seeds and i want to grow that
