I have a 2.5' square tent. Currently I have individual plastic saucers under ea. pot catching the runoff and I hate it.
My saucers are flimsy. Even if they were sturdier versions it's too annoying, to me at least, dealing w/ each one individually to rid them of excess water. I have a small shop vac I use to suck it out but I have to lift ea. plant and move everything around and it's cumbersome to do so. Also I think since the saucers are wider than the pots they collectively end up taking more space and I could prob. squeeze in a couple more plants if I could sit the pots a bit more flush.
I have fabric pots. I try not to water until overflow but the felt seeps it out something fierce even when going slow. I usually let them sit in the water for about 5- 10 minutes to reabsorb some of it. I know this is controversial but I only do it for 10 minutes max because I feel they lose too much too fast. I am also reusing old soil I've amended w/ dry organic nutes. It seems to me the used soil seems to wick the water away faster than before making the whole thing more annoying to deal with. Overall the plants are still great though.
I would like to know if anyone can recommend a cost effective (read: cheap) solution to rid myself of individual saucers. I know there are various types of trays and thing but the specific problem is finding something to fit snugly in my space which is about 30 inches on all sides. I've even tried to brainstorm non traditional gardening supplies as i essentially just need something to fit in with an 1" raised lip to collect water. It could be anything. One large single piece would be best but theoretically could be 2 items sitting side by side.
Any brilliant ideas? Thnx
