Vape Juice

I found this recipe on "I Love Growing Marijuana" has anyone tried it this way? Does it work well? any other info would be much appreciated.
  1. Put the marijuana into the sterile canning jar. Add alcohol until it covers marijuana by at least one-quarter inch. Place lid on the jar and shake vigorously. If the plant matter absorbs the alcohol and increases in size, add more alcohol.
  2. Place the jar (still tightly closed) in a dark location for 10-14 days. At least once per day, shake it up vigorously.
  3. After 10-14 days, strain the mixture through the cheesecloth, and pour it into the second sterile canning jar. Mix in your 100% USP-food grade vegetable glycerin. Put the lid on and shake vigorously for a minimum of two minutes.
If you want to remove more of the alcohol, this can be done by straining the mixture more or simply adding more vegetable glycerin to make the mixture thinner. Keep in mind, some of that alcohol will naturally evaporate.

Maybe it's just me but I wouldnt want to vape any alcohol at all. And also a 2 week soak in alcohol seems a bit much. Most of the thc will dissolve in a few mins, after that you'll be extracting chlorophyll. Jmo

Major details missing from the instructions. Isopropyl alcohol would not be the right kind for vaping. I believe they are talking about Ethanol alcohol. And what proof? I think 151 proof works best if we have no other solvent options. Flavored alcohol? I believe grain alcohol (no flavor added) works best. Maybe suggest ever clear? Or a different extraction solvent all together.
Love step 3... mix in veg. glycerin. What is the proper mixing ratio? Does it depend on the viscosity of the THC/CBD extract? I don’t know the answer to this, but that last step is one of the most important to making the cartridge burn properly.

You are correct. Ethanol has the ability to extract chlorophyll due to its polarity. Not the best for vaping at all. Maybe some eatable RSO would be ok.

#Toker1, Here are the ingredients. Guess my copy/paste skills need some work.lol
INGREDIENTS:
  • 5 grams of pure, blonde, powdered hash or 7 grams of high-quality bud (ground by hand)
  • 2-4 ounces of high proof alcohol (180 proof or higher; must be drinkable alcohol; 100 proof is the absolute minimum) — vodka is preferable, for its flavor neutrality
  • 2-4 ounces of 100% USP-food grade vegetable glycerin
  • 2 sterile canning jars and lids
  • 1 cheesecloth

Thanks for sharing uncledoug
You can put the alcohol mix out in the open on a flat glass tray over night to let it evaporate. Scrap the glass tray with a razor blade the next day for a easy concentrate without the ethanol alcohol.

Yes, I don’t think any other vodka comes in 180 proof besides Spirytus. Polish stuff that will strip the paint off a car. Lol
still leaves the issue about polarity. If you want to get the best tasting vape oil, the solvent polarity must be correct. Ethanol alcohol will extract chlorophyll as well as THC/Terps.

Sounds more like a Green Dragon recipe.

I am pretty sure chop is on 5/11 for me so love the idea of a recipe that can be Green Dragon from the dropper and Vape-ready :-) Thank you!

Is there anything good weed can't make a little better?

I used Everclear, 190 proof, Put some in OJ and that's some strong vodka. I've heard folks say Don't smoke and drink at the same time, not sure why, I feel great.

You want to get it when it's still a goo. If you wait to long it will harden. Depending on temp 12hr is about right. Then mix that with your VG.

Technically ever clear is grain alcohol. More potent than vodka. Tastes similar though. We used to call it the clever ear.

To be honest The VG/PG is kind of weak but it has its place in my day to day.

Use 7 to 14 grams of weed
Chill your ever clear, weed and jar in the freezer over night

Don't break your weed up that much, especially don't use a food processor or coffee grinder.

Cover weed in cold ethyl alcohol and continuously Shake gently for 3 minutes then strain, cheese cloth, then coffee filter. it should be golden not green.

Over night the mix on a glass tray as mentioned above

Heat your VG about 3 ml. in a shot glass sitting in a water bath not above 185f, and mix in concentrate in. This does not take but a minute on the heat, just enough to thin and mix.

You can add store bought VG/PG mixes for flavorings or buy Terpenes flavors. Distilled water can thin down a thick mix.

When I do it that's what I do.
Easy.and no waiting weeks

Yes the only difference is Time and Glycerin. Did you see Mr. Furley's comment above? I'm going to try his method this weekend.

Mr.furley, I strained the mixture 3 times then poured it into a glass casserole dish, let it evaporate like you said, used a razor blade and ended up with goo. Worked great, added glycerin a little at a time until the viscosity appeared about the same as regular vape oil. The effect is about half of what I would like.
I washed it for 7 days instead of 10/14 so maybe that's why the weakness, or maybe just a bit to much glycerin. Not sure why. I'm going to try your method this weekend.

Couple thing to mention.
1. Depending of your setup Decarboxylate before hand can sometimes help. Vaporizer should get hot enough but it was mentioned to me. .
2. Make sure to do a second wash of your product with new ethanol alcohol, that can help.
It took me a couple different time before I hit a somewhat good one. If you could get your hands on some wax or oil it would improve your final product . The alcohol wash in this way is not that super, but it does work to some extent .
They do make extractors for some bucks alltatup has this one I think.

Howdy all: I agree with Billyboy: recipe at the top is for Green Dragon tincture. You can't make a vapeable or dabbable concentrate if you leave the cannabis to soak for a long time: you will end up with RSO which can't be vaped/dabbed. Here's my concentrate results using a very quick wash of the frozen cannabis, a Buchner filter to remove any solids, and my Extractcraft Source machine: https://forum.growweedeasy.com/forum/growing-community/268943-making-cannabis-sap-from-trim
