Using regular seeds? Get rid of these guys!

Ran across these pics when I was putting together sample photos for the current grow_ "liquid organic nutrients in coco". I started with 10 regular seeds and at the beginning of the 4th week some of the males gave themselves away. Photos attached for those interested. Cheers for the new year!

Great pictures my friend, I’m sure sex photos are still needed for the main site, if you want I’m sure nebula would love to have them

Thanks. I signed up for the newsletter so I should be able to get in touch with her. Any of the photos I post are here for everyone to use (for non commercial use anyway). Everyone is so great about sharing_ that's what makes GWE the best...!

I'll forward your pics to my former dentist who will be starting his first grow this coming Spring. He's retired now, and has decided to plunge into cannabis cultivation. I've given him some regular seeds to start off his new hobby. So these pics along with Nebula's will help him weed out the undesirable "guys".

I'm in the process of growing regular seeds I have 11 plants that I have been using Jorge Cervantes method of creating more females than males by using outside influences

Hopefully they will! I like using regular seeds because you can try some new strains that aren't available in feminized versions yet, but they can be challenging. If he has the space to accommodate them then that makes it easier. Thats my main issue_ to get the number of females you want you need to sprout at least 2x more seeds than you want plants. But hey....maybe that means you might get lucky and need to adopt a few females already 4-5 weeks into veg_ that might be nice! Ever since I started using regular seeds I've been giving plants away...its like getting clones that are just about ready to put into flower....I had one male this time that was so far behind it didn't "show itself" until after most of the females had...wish him the best of luck!

I'll check that out....all I've been trying since I started using some regular seeds was some stuff I read somewhere_ keeping your temps 65-75 F, and your humidity about 60-70% until the third week and not letting them dry out too much between watering. As Tika said in her New Year wishes_ " we need to maintain our sense of humor" - that goes triple if you're going to start with regular seed!

I trust Jorge Cervantes. And I own his 2015 encyclopedia. But that’s just not true, sexing in biology works the same way in all plants and animals, “XX” chromosomes for males and “XY” for females, right at the time the seed is forming inside the bud it already decided on the sex at the first few celular divisions. That’s why companies like phylos can offer a sex test way before two weeks from seed, you just take a cotyledon and press it in a sheet of cardboard they give you, that’s all they need and can be done day 4 an on from seed

That's the only way I know how to do that without waiting for the plant to develop. I tried Phylos and it was fun but expensive for a hobbyist like myself. But it worked, they got them right. If I was commercial I'd probably try Jorge Cernavantes's suggestions and then use someone like Phyllis to test them so I could get as many females going in the same week as possible.Sounds like whatever I read about environmental conditions may not make any difference_ didn't't seem to work that way from my limited experience either.

I gave a friend 10 seeds and I took 10 seeds and we grew them I used Jorges methods and he did not ,he got 2 out of 10 females I got 8 out of 10 , and I now have 11 with there 4th set of leafs and going strong I will remove the dome Sunday , I will take the most robust girl and clone her for the 2nd grow down the road ,Maybe Ill get one in the next grow , and hey theirs only 18 weeks until outdoor planting

oldjarhead100_ Then you did good! I've got that link on my reading list_ just have to take time to get back to it. Congrats and best wishes with this new grow.
I heard that you were maybe trying out an AIT system? We talked about that last year but never heard if you decide to give it a try or not. Good growing!
