I would venture to say almost everyone, inside grows almost demand it, it can make the dif between light airy buds and nice hard buds. I grew them both ways, and topped and trained was the better grow. It helps keep the canopy even...
I’ve grown autos off an on over the last few years. I’ve never grown an auto indoors that I haven’t topped. We also have a few growers here that have never topped their autos.
I have 1 auto now in flower that was topped and 1 auto untopped just LST main cola with sides tied down. My auto untopped of course is the largest/tallest and I do defoiliate large fans and inside leaf as needed, I try not to play with them like I do the photos as I've not got my confidence up with them. Also love training photos.
NebulaHaze Original recommendation was "Topping auto-flowering cannabis strains is often not recommended because they’re on a tight schedule and may not recover in time, but it can be done if your plant is growing fast enough during the first few weeks of growth." However she has updated this On November 15, 2019. https://www.growweedeasy.com/can-you-top-autoflowering-strains I have grown 3 autos only once before, and had plenty of yield. I have two seedlings at present which I will top a Green Crack, and a Gorilla Glue. I had 10 packs of each strain so I have considerable opportunity for experimentation.
Since my next grow will be 4 Autos, I think I'll top two (if they're healthy and growing fast enough) and just LST the other two and compare the results.
BTW: I know the recommendation - I was just curious what Other people did.
Sledrock I did my first auto grow last winter before NebulaHaze did her update. Being I didn't really know what I was doing I followed her recommendations precisely. Had great yield from 3 plants 2 Gorilla Glue, and 1 White Widow. A cricket got my 4th seedling plant. "salad bar for a cricket"
Some I bend, some I top, I assume a combination of both would produce the best yields. I have tight quarters but plenty of height so my next couple I think I will top them, let them go pretty much straight up, clean up the bottom then defoliate in flower and see how they do.
starramusFunkyButtLovinRwiseWizardsNThings Thanks a lot, guys for the feedback! uncledoug I didn't know you could Manifold Autos since they have such a Short growth time? But I learn something new all the time!
ive just finished 4 pineapple express auto's (BF)...
2 I topped, 2 i didnt.
the topped two: 1 is a monster! lots of big thick colas. the other was a bit smaller but also big thick cola's, and many!
the untopped two: one was 'smallish' but still respectable. the other is the 2nd tallest, with a main cola around 12" long.
growing in hydro.

happy growing.
Grow 3 is underway - Malana Bomb auto (BF). 4 have all been topped and quadlined like mcubed476 does.
Yes you can Manifold them as long as they are healthy fast growing plants. I attached a few photos of my last grow. Pic1 at 17 days from sprout, #2 same day, pic 3 all done by 28 days. @siedrock .
