Tinctures

Cali

Guest
just wondering if any of you guys have used or use currently any of the tincture that Nebula posted about on her Sunday email.? Another question is how strong are tinctures is it like an edible brownie for example? Does taking a tincture orally make it stronger than applying topically.? Wondering because I know it said if I make it with edible alcohol I can eat it if not I have to put on skin so I’m wondering which is stronger??

I just made a glycerin tincture and haven't gotten a chance to really experiment yet, but I did find out that it absorbs through skin wicked fast; seemed to be a faster onset than orally (or maybe I spilled more on my hands than I thought). One day soon I'll test each method with an equal dose.

I did take a few drops of tincture at 6PM (sublingual) and still have a mild buzz 5+ hours later.

Cali I love tincture and I've been making my own for about 1.5 years. I learned that the good thing about tincture is that it's not as strong or long lasting as edibles. But what it does give me is a fantastic high in the morning on an empty stomach (I take it real early so I'm just nicely chilled by the time I have to go to work), and it makes excellent medicine. I never got the effects I get from tincture from smoking (back in the day when I smoked).

Its strength depends on the quality of the bud and how much you use, of course. I use my Source extractor to make my tincture stronger (= fewer drops do more) and for making concentrate from tincture. https://forum.growweedeasy.com/forum...-concentration

I don't know about putting an ethanol-based (drinkable) tincture on topically: your're gonna be a sticky mess when the alcohol dries up. Better to make a cream or salve with concentrate.

What is the least amount of dry herbs that I can use to make tincture? Or do I need to use an entire ounce for this??

You could make a very small batch--like one ounce of tincture--with a small amount of bud if it's really good bud. It depends on the bud quality of course. First you have to decarboxylate your bud, and then just immerse in in enough alcohol to cover it. The higher the proof alcohol, the better. I use Everclear 190 proof.

Just in case you don't know, decarbing your bud means you have to heat it at a low temperature to turn the THCA into THC so that it will be psychoactive.

alltatup Cool tnx. I am trying to get my hands on some everclear but they don’t sell it here in California and today I went to try to get Bacardi 151 but was told that they stopped selling it 2 years ago. There are others that are 151 proof guess I’ll have to go with those.

Cali If you're in CA, it should be relatively easy to get your hands on some 190 or 200 proof ethanol (pure grain alcohol). The higher the proof, the better your extraction of the chemicals will be. I'd recommend that you try to find something stronger than 151 proof, cuz the more water in the alcohol, the weaker the extraction.

Have another question if I drink it instead of taking it under my tongue will it hit different? Like will it hit like an edible? Meaning the effect? Also if I’m drinking it do I have to take more or the same amount??

Cali, It absorbs quickly under the tongue; I don't really know how different it is just to swallow it mixed in water or juice; it's gonna get into your bloodstream. But think about it:

Depending on what % THC your bud is, depending on how much bud you use, how much tincture you end up with--1 oz? 4 oz?--, and depending on how much you take, you'll get a little high, med. high or high AF. You're the only one who can figure it out cuz you know the bud you're working with.

Taking a tincture will not last as long as eating an edible.
