I want to make tincture from harvest trim. Do I need to grind trim before I decarboxylate or just pop in oven, chill and add to everclear? Butter recipes call for product to be finely ground but I haven't seen that for tincture. I will need to dry trim before it can be ground.
 
I am very interested in this subject also. I THINK Tika uses dried material, not fresh from harvest. Also, from the pictures she posted in her other thread, her material did not look ground. Did you read through that thread?
 
BTW, I know this is sacrilegious, but we did not save any of our trim while prepping buds for drying. Just couldn't deal with it right now. Next grow, however, will be a different story.
 
I agree, Tika's photo appears to be a bowl of buds that were not ground. Don't be too hard on yourself, I didn't save my first grow trim either but I want to try tincture this time. 😀
 
I was reading to grind and cover with foil on top and heat for 45 mins . I ground and cooked it, seems fine it took 4 ounces to fill 3/4 of my qt jar. And I couldn't find everclear I need the city LOL after 4 stores I got 90 proof rum. I have shaken 2 times today LOL
 
My dearest ones..I DO grind before decarb..I just don't grind it too much. I tend to use mostly bud with extra sticky trim. And it is dried/ cured. I like sativas but hate racing thoughts so I cure my stuff before I make tinctures and am able to be puppy happy free and focused without the ecolalia.
if you can't get 190 proof ever clear ( we drove out of state for it) use 151 Bacardi Rum...I actually like it. Best proof next to 190
after decarb is cooled put in freezer with the alcohol for a bit.bcombine in mason jar,N shake it for 5 five minutes to start then shake it every time you are ne'er the freezer AND do it for 10 days min. ( but you can test it along the way :) )
 
I couldn't find the 151 so my first will be 90...I saw I could order it on line 25 a bottle with a 19.99 courier service LOL Thanks for the way
 
Karlee..I know believe me money doesn't grow on trees BUT if you are dedicating product to your alcohol the higher proof the better. Big dif between 151 and 90
just sayin. I'd hand you a bottle if I could :)
 
I live in moonshine country and those boys make some pretty good brandy. Basically soaking fruit in moonshine. I might have to give that a try for tincture! The best of both worlds! 😆
 
I use everclear. I dont grind but just break up into chunks small enough to be covered by the alcohol. You dont need much more than that, which is a concern if 195 proof isnt easily gotten. A couple of thoughts based on basic chemistry. Ethanol is a POWERFUL solvent. You only need to let soak for a few hours, not days. Cooling in a frdge or freezer slows down the rate of absorption and is actually counter productive. All things dissolve better at warmer temps. Dont like the chlorophyll and harsh plant gums in your tincture? Just another reason to limit soaking time. Yes I have done side by side comparisons and im pretty convinced that these are true. HOWEVER , I only offer these up as suggestions. The way you like to do it and the way that that works for you, is of couse the right way.

I just discovered from reading your posts that I know absolutely nothing about Tincture. I got some reading to do.

I don't get how my poses get so garbled. I swear o read it before I send. Anyway..to reiterate; the alcohol goes in to freezer. Won't freeze of course. You want the temp cold along with the alcohol. I have a recipie some place just can't get to it yet.
Did you see the VG tincture I posted? Haven't done it yet but will soon.
 
Tika, I am a fast typist. You probably are too. That being said, my brain is slow, and I often use a word in a sentence that makes no sense. I try to proofread before sending, but you have no idea how often I see a mistake as soon as I hit the send button and I try to quick go in and fix it.
