Hi Tika, nice to see your tinctures. I've been trying a few extracts myself. I use the Everclear also. Was wondering if you knew the benefits of using the freezer for the extraction process. I have used a method described on a few internet sites, which does several 3-5 minute extractions in the alcohol, then removes the alcohol. Also read that just shaking in jar for not much more than a few days will extract the goodies. Any thoughts on the freezing part you described? The first method I described produceed a pretty potent medicine when I used my white widow weed. Thanks! 🌻

But what is the finish product - a liquid? Didn't you say you put drops under your tongue?

I need to learn more about this.

Ok, I searched GWE and found no recipe for making tinctures. This has really peaked my interest and I need to know more. Can you provide a step-by-step process, making sure it is the For Dummies version OR recommend a site for me.

Sorry to put you on the spot this way.

Yes indeed with THC/ CBD count..
I have big time wonder on that
Vote zwith my feet
Thanks for responding dontknownotin
Have a happy evening :)

The research I've run across seems to indicate that the chlorophyll is locked into the plant material when the solvent extraction is below 32 deg.F You also need to decarb the flower if you are going to ingest rather than smoking so that you can access all of the plants psychoactive compounds.

Tinctures use alcohol to extract any soluble compounds from cannabis. This allows you to concentrate the cannabinoids in the flowers and produce oil extracts for consumption. Biggest difference in production would be if the final product is for oral use. If it is, the flower needs to be decarbed(heated to 240 deg.F for at least 30 min.) to allow full access to the good stuff in your bud.

Nice find Karlee! Thanks! I've done something like the "modern green dragon", except I've done a second soaking in alcohol (supposedly it captures any remaining active constituents that the first 3 minutes soak missed). Super easy. Then if you want you can concentrate the extracted alcohol by carefully heating it on double boiler, until you eventually end up with very potent concentrate. Only a rice grain sized amount is needed under the tongue. This is similar to the process described in GWE here: http://www.growweedeasy.com/cannabis-extract-hash-oil. I would think that if you wanted a more liquid tincture, you would just evaporate less alcohol.

Hi rockman
basically i just follow instructions. Freezing-as far as I understand contributes to the action of the alcohol release/ extraction process of cannabinoids from bud and leaf. Ideally: decarb your product (bud ,nugs , sugar leaves)@ 240 for minimum 30 minutes (also depends on how long product is in storage-if a long time decarb 30 minutes) , cool, put in freezer along with your alcohol of choice that has already been in freezer. then combine both. At that point shake your jar for a FULL 5 minutes and thereafter shake every time you meet your freezer. I do this for a minimum of 11 days, then strain. I dont double strain since i dont care if there is product in my tincture. But do "squeeze the piss out of a
double layer of cheese cloth.".
I usually over do it with tinctures and cookies. I dont like the dosing of 1ml prescribed on some sites. I like 3 drops and wait. If 3 gets one there i am glad i made it stronger. The 190 proof causes me to do a little burny dance so sometimes i prefer 151 Bacardi rum.
last night I made: 750 mls of 190 proof with 2.25 oz plant (bud and trim).
yes White Widow will get you there. Nice!
Some short recipes- like with sauteed butter on toast will get you there too. I look for a dense more potent configuration so one uses less and has more product to use.
The nice thing about tinctures is that they store well.
The goodies are suspended in alchohol-that is the tincture.
Did you see Karlees post this am from Leafly. Also google "cannabis tinctures".
MAIN thing is to decarb your green...freeze your alcohol (which wont freeze) and chill your ground product.
don't hesitate to tellme if i didn't answer right :)
