Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate

A lot of people call it Hydroton, which was actually the company name of the primary maker before they got shut down or something. Kinda like Xerox, or even more like Perrier for those old enough to remember when they were synonymous with bottled water before the contamination disaster.

Also called clay pellets or balls, expanded clay, coco puffs etc.

The stuff is really trippy. basically they take clay balls and run them through a rotary kiln at 1000+ degrees. They quickly form the outside shell and the gasses and moisture mace a micro honeycomb structure inside.

Being inert you eliminate so many pest problems.

Many people will tell you it doesn't wick or retain water but they are incorrect.

You can't over water with LECA, but you do have to keep them damp so hand watering would be a bitch but an auto system like E&F is great. My pump cycles on every 3 hours for a half hour.

Because there is no sitting water trapped and extensive air flow to the roots, root rot is virtually eliminated.

The company that made it is out of business or at least out of mfg Hydroton, it was a secondary product. Hydroton is a trademark bought by Mother Earth.

A different company bought the old Oketau foundries in Germany and makes a similar product called Cyco Hydro Clay

Busy day and didn't get everything done I wanted to. I'll have a Tent update tomorrow since I didn't get to move the seedlings today.

So what was I so busy doing? Sifting and shopping! I did my first ever dry ice sift today and it was awesome. Didn't get as good of a return as I probably should have, about 10%, but considering it's something that would have normally gotten trashed it's great. This was from fresh frozen trim from the Death Star grow.

very nice GG I mixed my two lower bags couldn't tell the difference and will making the next batch next week(Maybe)lol its 430 am I'm bringingg my sister into the airport in Boston evry time I do this drive I wonder how I did it for 24 years lol

Tent A

Letting seedlings run as is to develop roots. They are under the LED's now With the cut off pots I didn't need to add an extra empty rooter to wick. Will up to veg nutes in about 4 days and it'll be full on veg time. They look good, 1st set is out.

Tent B

Everything running good, plants are looking frosty and nice. The NL is beginning to get orange hairs. The poor Candida is trying to hold her own but the NL is just master of the tent currently. I'll hold off on harvest for her probably to clear out the others and give her some premium light time. Next time I grow her I'll either run her by herself or 1/2 a ScrOG with a Wonder Woman on the other half, I think they'll grow nice together that way.

10/27 - Added 5gal RO, 15ml Cal/Mag, 20ml Micro, 35ml Bloom. 10 days since last reservoir change.
