Smart pots????

Potted

Guest
When using smart pots is it necessary to put drainage media at the bottom of pot???any help would be met with gradatude thanks

No drainage material needed...they'll drain nicely in soil. As mentioned, with Kind soil you can water up to runoff. I was curious with my first Kind grow how much water to thoroughly wet, so I went for a small runoff, but then saved the runoff for future watering.

Saving the water, what a great idea, never thought of that, and dipping for 15min.and letting it drain out,now you've got me thinking could u use the saved water with fert again and again? Checking ph and adjusting as needed.Would only use every other feeding??? Just.spitballing any body try this if so let me know always looking for a easer way to grow! Lol

I here u must water more with cloth pots anyway, am blown away that u dip them, could u do this thru out grow?if so could u reuse the water? Have u tried this? If so please let me know.thanks

that dudn't sound crazy at all, sounds smart, cuz you get the juice to the roots without any unnecessary flushing of the soil up top....smart smart.

My first grow was a fabric smart pot next to a 5 gallon bucket, now i use the 5 gal bucket as a stand for my smart pot! I even have smaller fabric pots for clones! Peace!

I do not pour my drainage back into the plants. Although very clear waste ( as my coco is rinsed of most tannins) I think it is asking for trouble. I do pour my run off/ waste on my out door plants ( drought driven practice) and they like it esp cymbidiums.

I haven't tried myself but a friend of mine sits his smart pots on top of a few inches of soil to help catch the excess feed but also to provide space for the roots in case they run out of space in the bag. Soil and bag sit inside a low Rubbermaid of some sort. Theory makes sense, dunno about the convenience and actual need to do it.

Just trans planted into 5gl. Smart pots from 1 gl. Reg.pots(4 of them) going to water them later it went without a hitch thanks for the all the help lv u all !
