Seeking advice 101

This forum has been growing really fast, to the point that I feel that similar questions are being asked over and over within a few hours period which in turn makes it hard for the other posts to remain up afloat and forces those of us trying to help to repeat the same advice many times a day as well.
Which I think that, considering the wealth of info our hosts put together in the tutorials, is highly counter productive. I've been racking my brain figuring out a way to help with that. I think that maybe whenever someone is about to post a question for the first time they should go thru a quick questionnaire. Did I you read this or that? I know I've asked stupid ass questions many times and got checked by other members a couple times who were most likely frustrated with my laziness in looking for obvious answers.
Which brings up the second part of this post. When asking questions keep in mind that growing is a very personal, unique process for every growers. So the more info you provide the much much much better! No bank account number needed no worries, but anything you got will definitely help. Growing medium, temps, lights, humidity...Anything more detailed than "the leaves are droopy, please help!" will be better.
Remember it's free advice so be courteous and thankful, and if you don't like the advice you don't have to follow it! I know some members have complained about first time growers giving advice. It's a fair concern. So just like everything else, do your homework and familiarize yourself with the members and their post history. If you read something about me being a first time pot grower(suspicious this guy is giving advice right?) but then read in another post that I have 20 years of experience in all aspects of landscaping it might influence your judgement regarding my advice. If I'm advising on pest control or pruning for example just go for it! If I'm advising on hydro culture then beware and run the other way and ask the top dogs directly (nebula green74 royalnugz Tika insomniaczzz the usual suspects, you know who they are...)
All I'm saying in this ramble is, advice are free so be grateful no matter what is being advised to you, don't be a whiny willie. Help us help you. Bring ALL the info you have regarding your growing conditions. Do your homework. Read ALL the tutorials on this site, ALL OF IT. Read what others post, you'll know real fast who to listen to.
But above all keep on growin' and have fun with it!!!

Lucky, great ramble with many important points! 🙌 Sometimes I feel that those asking questions (usually newbies) have not really looked into our super website GWE, and could easily get some answers there. Also as you said...even if you haven't had years of cannabis growing experience, your previous knowledge can be very useful in giving certain advice. Of course one should not try to complicate issues with uninformed opinions. And let our favorite experts have the opportunity to make their well earned experience get the spotlight it deserves. This forum can be a super resource...we all just need to follow your advice on how to make that happen. Thanks! 😊
 
As a newbee, I actually spent a couple of months reading and reading GWE.....and now as everything is starting for my first time growing, and also on a forum of this sort, I find myself almost not looking at GWE, just going for the one on one help from all of you.....Kinda of a wake up call to get my shit together and backtrack to GWE....But with that being said for your first grow, you just want to talk and show pics and ask questions about it.....Its addicting.....LOL....Thanks Everyone For The Help!
 
I agree that some questions should not be asked because of all the info on this site but for me it's a place to talk to others because growing pot is not something you let everyone no you are doing and for me when I ask a question it's normally because I have something very specific going on and the only way to get a real answer is to talk to someone who has lived tht issue alrdy
 
Yes indeed WSA...it's just unbelievable (for me as well) to be able to share my grow with others, especially after first 5 grows prior to forum were so interesting but were only seen by myself. I didn't even take pics for fear from my illegal status (now I'm part of the great Massachusetts experiment). Nothing like friends to cheer you along! 🙌🙌
 
Yeah it gets very repetitive, but asking a question one on one is more fun, and often faster and more productive, than going through looking at everything there is written on deficiencies and whatnot- that's a lot of material. Besides- some people like answering questions, myself included. It's a big part of what forums are- wandering around asking and answering questions.

The supreme commanders could put a sticky up top on question posting guidelines, and the relevant info to include. Also encourage people to always include pics.

And I would add to that sticky, if I was the one writing it, to point out that it's polite to reply and say thanks when someone posts to try to help you out. If not to say thank you, at least to acknowledge that you read it. I don't expect anything back when I write free advice, and I don't ever assume that my answer is the only answer, or always right. But it still feels a little cold when you put a bunch of effort in helping answer somebody's question and they don't even bother to reply after getting their answer.
 
Thanks for bringing this up! I'm going to make a "Question Posting Guideline" sticky, and I'm hoping that at least helps people know what info to include in their post!
 
So true Weasel, it's apparent to me that some members put a lot of time and thought into their comments and advice, and they should be acknowledged for trying to help as best they can! 🌸
 
Nice! Think tank in progress! I totally agree the conversations are essential to the forum, we should just try and aim at keeping them as fluid and efficient as possible. Couple weeks ago I spent time combing around pages 4 or 5 in the forum looking for unanswered posts because there was so much "clutter"(term used lightly) on pages 1 and 2 and those had been lost in the am frenzy. So I made a couple comments here and there to bump them back up and sure enough it got them traction and their answers. That's all really on my end what I'd like to avoid. Newbies getting ignored and then they get discouraged and stop growing pot and become dea agents. We don't need more dea agents. We need more growers.
 
I also try to go back and look at old posts when I can. I completely agree, even if you don't know the answer, just bumping the thread back to the front can make a huge difference by getting the post more exposure :)
 
For me it's not even so much about getting any sort of praise for my answers, which may or may not even be right, lol. I like putting my 2c in when I have the 2c, 'cause it can be fun, for some demented reason. But it's definitely more fun when people write back. Some people don't seem to even realize that you're human and not some sort of online 'answering bot'.
Best rewards are feeling like I actually helped someone. Sometimes a very interesting conversation happens and we all learn things and I meet someone cool. Sometimes I meet a troll. Usually it's somewhere in between.

Agree Weasel....it's a great feeling when someone you've tried to help lets you know that you've helped. And other times...who knows, the 2c wasn't all that valuable. But the opportunity for me to engage with other growers is priceless, especially after a long time of keeping my cannabis growing adventures a secret! 🌻
