hello all, can anyone give me some advice on growing organic in rhizo pots, can i over water these??, and do i have to have a run off?? or is the saucer under the pot a run off..???
 
Rhizo pots are fabric pots right? Sorry I wasn’t aware of that name until now and yep fabric pots are ideal for organic soil growing, however I wouldn’t use a saucer for a fabric pots, it wants to be off the ground , use wire oven shelves, so pots are raised from floor, you won’t need to have too much run off, unless you want to check root zone ph, I avoid too much run off in live soil in fabric pots. But if you do over water they usually fix that problem quickly due to the excellent airation properties.
 
Never tried organic grows but always be careful of overwatering and the runoff doesn't seem that important to me.I treat my plants the same way I treat my golf greens just read the plant it will let u know when its hungry or thirsty
 
Make sure to water slowly with fabric pots. Water to fast and you will get runoff from the sides before you have given enough water.

If using living soil like kindsoil or super soil you dont want runoff. If using something like ffof and adding nutrients you want some runoff. But dont leave the plants sitting in water. I use a shop vac to suck up all the runoff.

What are the Rhizo pots of which you speak? Never heard of them before, feel free to post us curious types some pictures if you want :D

My guess is that it is possible to over water with organic soil in them. Folks in coco and perlite can't over water, as long as it is in something like a smart pot, because of how well the medium drains and holds Oxygen, but soil doesn't quite hold enough Oxygen when wet.

Fabric pots work great and are very cheap. They work in the same fashion as air pots. Air pots work too but just cost more.
 
Golf greens and cannabis are a little different but not a whole lot. I definitely am familiar with both, Cheers! ⛳️💦🍺
 
thanks mate, im going to be using biobizz all mix, and ive been told to add nutes after 3 weeks, so will i need some run off??
 
I have mine in a tent. They sit about 2 inchs above the floor on what are basically like cookie cooling racks. The tents come with an insert that will hold liquid. After watering I wait about 20 minutes and then suck up all the water that runs off with a shop vacuum.

You just dont want them sitting in water all the time. You can have them off the ground with something under them to catch the water. Then you just empty it after it stops dripping. Just use your imagination. Lots of ways to do it.

I would treat those just like a Smart Pot, so no risk of over water with Coco, but with soil, yes, you could over in those.
Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but when you water, do it nice and slow, that way the water has a chance to soak ALL the soil, instead of just part of it, with the rest running off and leaving some roots dry.
Those fabric pot's are great for growing in though, and help give your roots what they crave, plenty of oxygen.
 
I guess another word of advice, would be to make sure what you plant them in for there forever home, is big enough. It can be good to go with a larger than normal pot, when you use fabric instead of conventional. At least part of this, is because the breathable pot will dry out much faster, so if your plant gets a little pot bound toward the end, it can go through water FAST, and have you watering every day.
That can drive your humidity up towards the end of the grow, when you really need to keep it low, to prevent mold problems.
It also can be tricky getting plants out of fabric pots, since the roots can kinda grow into the fabric. Many people prefer to use fabric pots for the plants final home for this reason.
