Question: Root Ball

I was wondering whether the main stem has to be central in the grow pot. I appreciate a plant makes a rootball but if you wanted to have the main stem closer to the rim of your pot to tie down and run the edge (I would like to thank kingfish for taking the time to talk to me about this tech), would that be a possibility. Or, would you find a case where the plant withers the side closest to the pot wall due to lack of root space growth whilst the other side-the side with most of the soil-goes ballistic and if that is the case, can that be used to our advantage.
The reason this question has been posted rather than just nattering to kingfish and no slight is intended here to him regarding this, is that loads of site growers must have tried numerous different grows where the rootball isn`t smack plum in the middle. Where it may have been closed in tight in one area, freer another.
I would appreciate any growers` feedback around whether they also found this to be a positive or negative experience. Obviously, this is purely just a soil based question....:)
 
Plants will deal with whatever they are given. Someone here posted a pic of a nice size plant growing randomly in a crack in the concrete. But I like all mine centered. But I spend alot of time training them and fill massive areas with single plants. Will it work? I would say yes. Would it be better? No clue there but doubt it.
 
Pagan, I've thought about that, but never tried it. I don't think it will ever make around the pot because it will bush out so much. You have to tie the nodes down as well. Besides when I get all the colas I want. I stop. You will be amazed. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
 
Redwasp That was me. My mate spotted it when he went to have a fag in the garden. Bloody nearly keeled over when I saw that and it grew well quick. But I`m thinking that I`ve got a Red Diesel coming along, I might try it and see what happens. Actually, I am. :)
 
PaganRich, yes, I've planted them closer to the edge of the pots plenty of times, when I'm gonna bend them over, it really helps you keep all your colas even, when you tie them down.
Didnt cause any root problems, they are gonna go, where they want to go.

D.A.A.S.69 kingfish Redwasp Names like these, sounds like a fighter squadron from the Battle of Britain. All we need is Ginger & Nobby and we`d be done. Thanks to D for clearing that up. Getting to Kingfish`s thoughts about round the rim grows, I have a few questions. Even if you top at the tip to split the growth into 2 stems and send them going in opposite directions round the rim and say you tie lower to the ground but rise up as you go round, well, that`s still a lot of turf you`ve got to get round if you`re growing in a 20l pot, say 23"/24" for half the pot`s rim. Plus, height is still gonna be a sod to control plus all those hormones have got to get round to the main end tips but still `feed` the node growths. Has anyone seen someone achieve this and get an even cola canopy with the later buds as favoured by nutes as the earlier buds? Also, gonna take a lot of veg time to structure. Did you say you achieved 7oz dry kingfish or did I dream that? Is exciting though and challenging and I do like a challenge :) Is definitely tempting. Respect for this chat, lads :)
 
Well we have OldJarHead. And since Nobby comes from the base Nob(meaning head) we already have the American equivalent of Nobby. Lol
 
oldjarhead100 Looks like you`ve been seconded to the RAF mate....Tally Ho. American lads did fight in that Battle and learnt lessons that helped in the Pacific campaign. So something positive came out of that, though not for the Zero pilots, I suppose. Like your thinking Red :)

Here's one that I planted near the edge to train around, but going around didn't happen lol. Had a great lean and broke apical dominance . I don't remember the final details and didn't save my journal. 😣

This was before I found kind soil. The dirt wasn't the best. And I just yank them out no care taken to preserve the root structure. But it didn't seem to suffer being on the edge.
 
Nice tat CK you`ve got going there mate. It`s weird, before it would be 747 drum sticks or after that, a damn fine Southern Chinese broadsword but that root system produced the same reaction in me. How we change over time, eh? Can I ask what strain if you can remember?
 
I believe it was DAAS who got 7ozs. As for keeping a even canopy. As the nodes get bigger. Just keep tying them down. Just make sure the MAIN top is not the tallest part of the plant. I just took all the restrains off mine this morning. I have pictures later on today.
 
Unfortunately until my current grow, all have been unknown. The first couple were bagseed, then I got a batch of mislabeled seeds.
 
Pagan, here is one of my Amnesia Kush. I took the restrains off them this morning and as you can see. Pretty even canopy. BTW count the tops. It has 12. 13 if you count the smaller one. Tuesday will be one week of 12/12.

Damn Kingfish, that plant looks perfect going into flower. Nice, open spaces!! I defoialate the shit out of mine be they are always way bushier that yours. I have always been too scared to defoialate as much as you but you have inspired me to kick it up a notch or two!! 🤔
 
kingfish That is just a beautiful looking lass. I`d be well happy if I got one like that growing. Nice KF, very nice mate. Looking forward to the rest of this grow :)
