Question on making dry ice hash

I will be making dry ice hash for the first time soon. I have saved all the trim and smaller buds from four plants harvested at different times, and put the fresh cut trim directly the freezer. I've watched the video tutorial on GWE and several others on YouTube. They all seem to use dried bud. Did I screw up by not drying and/or curing the buds and trim in some way?

No way mang. The idea is to use all your swag and trim to make Hash. No need to cure or trim it in any way

You're just looking to extract the trichomes from the plant matter. Whether it's dried and cured or not is irrelevant. I believe all/most extraction processes are done with fresh product?

I'm guessing it's because the chlorophyll hasn't been broken down yet by the drying/curing process? I've heard you use fresh product because the drying/curing process kills so much of the flavors/smells. I make no claims to be an extraction expert. I'd like to learn as much as possible.

Extraction is the biggest thing going on in the industry IMO. There's so many types it makes my head spin. BHO, CO2, live resin, terpine/volatiles extraction, dry sift, tinctures, RSO, etc etc.

My favorite is the hash I used 3 oz and the 3 grades were all fantastic I'd highly recommend making it. The stores here want 20 or 30 for a joint with hash sprinkled on it LOL I'd be broke if I didn't grow my own

If the material (bud, trim, sugar leaves etc) does not need to be dried/cured -what is the material that we are actually curing for two months?
If you shake out a green batch of Sativa and smoke it are you not likely to get "racing thoughts" having not been cured. ??
PS I love making dry ice kief :)

It's okay you put the trim directly in the freezer. For some reason it's not like trying to smoke fresh bud when you remove the trichomes. The hash you get feels a little different depending on whether you do it "fresh" or "cured" but either way it produces great results without the problems you get from uncured bud. It's more a matter of personal preference. For example lots of people smoke "scissor hash" which is the hash that collects on your scissors during trimming. Even though it's completely fresh, it's still good to smoke and has its own unique effects.

You want to make sure whatever it is is completely dry before you mix it with the dry ice though. So after you take it out of the freezer let it sit on a tray until it's dry before you make dry ice hash. But don't cook it or raise the temperature to dry it faster because that burns off stuff you want to keep. If it's got water inside the trim/bud it will condense when you're shaking out the trichomes with the dry ice, and then the hash becomes wet and doesn't come out as easily which lowers your yields. I learned this one the hard way! The hash being wet isn't necessarily a terrible thing, but you do have to dry it before using it so it burns right and to prevent mold.

If everything is dry when you start, there's never any water at any point in the process, so the hash is ready to use as soon as you shake it out of the bag and you get the best yields!

no kidding...personally I do not ever plan to use flammable processes..the oven is enough for me.

Thanks to all who responded! Since I grow only for myself, I have plenty to play with. It's good to know I can use what I've frozen. I'll have to do a comparison with fresh frozen and dried/cured.

I make RSO by following Rick Simpson's how to video (but as Tika points out it's a flammable process). This is the reason that I decided to grow my own cannabis in the first place. I take it at bed time, like a vitamin supplement, because I like the health benefit but I don't like being high for 6-8 hours. I'm old and falling apart, my warranty has expired and RSO keeps me going. My son likes to vaporize it but GWE points out that this is an inefficient use. I'll try many of the various extraction methods before I'm done.

I totally disagree. I started smoking weed in 1966 and been using a vaporizer about 2 years ago and won't ever go back to smoking a pipe or joint. maybe a joint now and again. Please give it a try.

You try to avoid GREEN hash. Like Carlsoti said That only means you have collected green material from the leaves.

Kingfish, are you talking about smoking RSO? I use a vaporizer for weed but not RSO. I've also tried RSO on a paper before rolling a joint and got an extra kick but I think the health benefit from RSO is better realized through ingestion.

I use 3 filters with the dry ice shake it up the first filter is a beautiful gold color (the best) next is a gold green the third filter is more a green powder the bags do come with 8 filters so if you did each one it would be green at the end

This is the way I've been planning to do it. I also have a pollen press. Any thoughts on using loose hash over pressed hash? Right now, it's all academic to me. Any words from experienced hash makers is welcomed!
