I think it's also the freedom of not being able to clone ;)
When you grow photos, the model is to find the strongest performer, make her a mother, and clone her out. At the very least, the model is to grow out more seeds than you need and keep the best performers. That's an awesome process but not practical or necessary at the scale I'm growing at.

I feel like large scale and commercial/collective growing has defined a lot of the "standards" in the homegrow world, and established many of the paradigms -- many of the models for how we grow. And I think we've reached the point where we can start to look at those conventions and decide which ones are truly practical for small scale homegrowers and which should be left to the bulk producing pros.

Thanks again, Nebula, but I ain't counting my chickens until they hatch!! So far, so good: the chiller is making a huge difference.

No trim autos do not like trimming!. I use a MH lamp so bush is what I desire. Lots of room I will tie the plant down best I can do.
 
There would be some that disagree about the trimming. It comes down to the strain. Even with some seed bank descriptions they will say trimming and even topping is recommended for some strains. It seems Sativa's can handle it more as they usually have a longer growing time than most of the Indica's.
 
thanks all I tried autos once had a couple of free seeds one went into bloom right away about 8 inches tall but the other did really good so after reading this post I may try some more one question if its the same strain does a auto need different care than a photo
 
The lights are left on longer so a slight (10%) increase in expense and the seed companies recommend 1/2 the nutrients.
I'm in the beginning/middle of a perpetual harvest and the different plant heights need to be taken into consideration.
 
Nice- autos were first developed for outside grows- so two harvests could be had each season.
Growing outside takes care of all the things I mentioned!
 
In a lot of cases the answer is yes, because an Auto no has another strain added to it (usually ruderalis), which changes the plant some. If the breeder doesn't list any needs for the plant I'd send them a message and ask. Unfortunately the descriptions for the strain don't have any continuity to them. Some descriptions have great info and another description will have next to nothing. Very frustrating!
 
Ive grown thc bomb outside for a couple of years so I know what to expect lookin forward to not having to worry about bud rot in sept.and Oct.
