Reading the farmers almanac on pests

  • To get rid of bugs in houseplants, push a clove of garlic into the plant's soil. If the garlic sprouts and grows, just cut it back.
  • Spider mites are apt to thrive in warm, dry houses. Frequent misting under the leaves of houseplants will discourage them. A solution of 1 cup flour, ¼ cup buttermilk, and a gallon of cool water, applied in a mist, is a good organic deterrent.
  • Your houseplants may sprout bugs once brought inside your house because they no longer have outdoor predators.
  • Remove aphids from houseplants with a mixture of equal parts rubbing alcohol and water and add a drop of dishwashing detergent. Apply this to troubled plants with a soft brush.

I'm still wondering what makes it come in and get on plants...Possible things -always use clean pots and planters, never use garden soil because that is where bugs lay eggs. Always clean up dead leaves on a plant sitting on dirt is a home. Misting under leaves can make bugs not want to live on that plant.

I love organic and when I hear I set off a bomb to kill bugs you are killing bugs that would eat your pest, if you see a spider in your tent be thankful he is eating pests you don't want. So to me big picture is you can't kill all the bugs rather make it so they don't want to live in that environment and move on.

Ladybugs are a great help and you help by feeding them to stay in the environment.
 
Garlic in the soil will also help keep vampires out of your grow too. :D

As for spiders in the tent, err no, no thanks, nearly lost a tent when a kamikaze arachnid nose dived at me from on high up, I nearly brought the whole thing down whilst exiting the area at great speed. :nah:
 
Very nice Karlee...great that you are sharing this for our knowledge hungry members! 🙌 We are part of the natural world, and when we can flow with it, such as in gardening, everyone benefits and we can have some very happy 😊 plants!
 
I can't believe all the spider haters ...hey folks they aren't bad granted I don't like picking them up but I would. I won't go into the how many you swallow a year, personally my bug I can't stand is the carpenter ant 1 inch long biter that is yucky ...spiders catch them and wasps. Didn't anybody read charlottes web. LOL

I just feel we need to be responsible with killing bugs we all walk a fine line .
 
I had my house wide open this summer and I don't get bugs, outside my roses get aphids I use a soap water spray and they don't comeback . Thanks Rockman you understand what I was saying LOL
 
I feel like I win th​​​​​​e growers lottery every time I find a lady bug. I'm just like yeah, I know where you will be living for the remainder of your life. Nature is awesome
 
Lol's I know, I'm not a fan of the eight legged freaks but I definately don't kill them. They get transported to the spider ejection portal (window, open obviously) via glass and card. But if they launch an unexpected strike I will scream and run into a wall before composing myself for the evacuation procedure. :rolleyes:

Now wasps are a different matter all together!
 
Glad to here it, I've always been the one to get them outside , and you will be paid back for doing that! LOL you cracked me up!
 
I am not a bug hater. But if they invade my grow tent. Then they are dead bugs. I use diatomaceous earth on my soil to prevent little buggers to take hold. But the first sign. SPINOSAD....

We have more Black Widows than anywhere in the states. If I don't kill them they will kill me. Also have Violin Spiders and they are harder to see/ recognize. I save daddy long legs for other bugs/ spiders. They are very venomis too but don't hurt humans.

I have a collection in my studio. Some I relaxed myself. Still life creatures. Not against bugs ...or insects.

The poisin spiders make homes in dark corners and in side old shoes boots and boxes of junk stored in garages. Mostly not inside lit up grow tents. Most garden spiders not poisonous.
