Overwatering symptoms and pictures?

I was informed that this plant looks like it has been overwatered. I received advice on how to avoid this in the future which was great.

This is my first grow and I would like to be able to recognize the symptoms in this picture. I am only familiar with the tutorial pics where the plant looks very droopy. This doesn't look droopy to me, but I have seen it when it was very under watered and all the leaves were hanging down.

What am I missing?

Please chime in and identify what you see that tells you it is overwatered? Please be as specific as you can.

Also, it would be so helpful if some of the experienced folks could add other pics of plants that have been overwatered with comments about similar or other symptoms.

Hey Spanky , looks like you got some deficiencies there, Nebulas got good pictures on GWE that shows you every kind ,check them out. Hope this helps.
 
I know; sad isn't it! I got some good advise on how to treat that and it seems to be working. A side comment I received was on the overwatering. Since I still don't really know what is in the pic that stimulated this comment, I figured I would start a thread to focus on that. It would be nice to understand this so I can recognize it myself in future grows. Right now, I am clueless!
 
As OzBud said there's several different symptoms from over and underwatering. I hate to keep saying look on GWE, but Nubula can show you with pictures and descriptions lots better than I can. Hope that helps and good luck with your plants you will be able to fix those problems easy.Good luck.
 
Also: what are your nutrients, medium, pH? And is that one plant only in the pot in your picture?
 
Yes it is just one plant that I Topped and low stress trained before SCROG. It is so nice that folks want to try to help with all the problems the poor thing has suffered at my hands! OzBud describes all the symptoms I have learned about the hard way and I believe it is the result of the factors s/he mentions. That is what made it so confusing...it wasn't just one cause. I did get advice on using some nutes I really like from Botanicare. They are referred to in one of the tutorials.

I was trying to isolate this one pic and focus on the symptoms of overwatering. But maybe the plant's other problems and symptoms crowd out the focus on just overwatering.
 
Are you checking PH before watering and of the run off? It's amazing what symptoms bad PH can cause and look like other deficiencies.
 
I have been checking Ph before watering and I recently read that I should check the pre water Ph after I add nutes.
I will start doing that. What would you say is a good range for the run off water? If I find it to be out of that range, should I adjust the pre water by the same amount I am off? Thanks!
 
Looks like you are growing in soil so PH should be between 6 and 7. Yes, you should check PH after adding any nutrients and/or additives. Check your run off ph to see that you soil PH is within range too. Good luck!
 
And listen to what others have to say, you may have other issues as well but I would start with PH and don't water until top of soil is dry down to the first knuckle on your finger.
 
You can read what your plain water is to get an idea of what it i.e. But don't add any adjustment. Add your nutrients/ mix then check it again to get an idea of how many Mel's to add. Add your pH up ur down depending on what you need and pH read /check it til you get what you need. Also do not do pH up and down in same mix..ever. If you mess up a jug you will need to start fresh.
 
Tika, thanks for confirming that PH up/down should not be used on same mix. I never thought to look it up or really question it as I've only missed the mark a few times. Last grow I overshot my target a couple times bringing PH down. I checked to make sure no one was looking and added PH up :). Something in the back of my mind said 'don't do that'! All turned out fine but now I know!
 
I didn't know any better in my first and last areoponic grow of lettuce. It rotted my roots big time.
You lucked out :) and I am happy bout that.
However: it IS the rule.

Goodness, there is so much to keep track of! I get it, don't add both up and down to your water. Seems like I should know that, but I should have also known that I shouldn't make a gallon of Botanicare (an organic) for one plant, expecting it to stay fresh until it was gone in several weeks! But I had to be told it would spoil and go bad!

The nuggets of wisdom one gets on this forum are great.

But, I am still confused about something. So my soil runoff water is under 6 or over 7. I adjust my water by a corresponding number...up or down, but not both in the same jug! I don't water again at this session, do I, to check if it worked? I wait until the plant needs water again, make the adjustment and check the runoff again, right?
