I don't think it is. Higrade protocol requires properly dried and cured bud. I conclude that Higrade app is only for kind bud, loud, gas, and won't test street schwag.
A buddy brought in some mini-buds he got (I can't believe what some folks are selling!!); the trichomes were mostly clear and it smelled grassy, so obviously not harvested at the proper time or cured. Probably from the bottom of the cola.
It tested 24%, which was an inaccurate read on shit bud. I wrote to the Chief Scientist at Higrade to see if I'm right.
What this app will verify:
*THC percentages published by the breeders. I can see if I'm at the high or the low end of the percentage.
*How much stronger top buds are vs lower buds.
*How much weaker shorter colas are vs taller ones.
I'm assuming that I'll have to wait a couple of months of curing to get an accurate read.
This will definitely help me hone my game.

I contacted Higrade to inquire if the device can be used to analyze trichs as regards optimal harvesting of plants. Their response as follows:
The Grower feature in the HiGrade app can be used for requesting optimal harvest timings based on trichome color ratios from images uploaded by the user. smoorman I wouldn't want to depend on someone else telling me when to harvest; it took me some time, but four years of practice have taught me how to see my triches correctly.
I will tell you this, and I want to emphasize it; it really does take a while and lots of practice to train your eye to know what you're seeing. Start looking at the trichomes as soon as they appear on buds, and keep looking: you will learn how to see them change, grow cloudy, swell at the top as they fill with THC and terpenes, and turn white. But it's really helpful to know how they look at the start, with tiny heads, as they change, and in their final glory with bulging mushroom heads that are super cloudy or white.
Of course, the right loupe makes all the difference. After wasting money on cheap plastic stuff, I settled on a Belomo triplet loupe, and you won't find anything better. My favorite is the 15x. Here's my topic on the Belomo:
