Well NakedGardener, actually in the US a group of researches found cannabis not to be a dangerous drug in the 70s, but Nixon was who he was, prolly hated the hippies and labelled it as one of the more dangerous drugs--schedule one or two, I forget which.
Now I figure this happened for various reasons: 1. hatred of the counter culture; 2. politicians have been in the pockets of the tobacco and alcohol lobbyists, who never wanted any competition with their poisonous products; 3. bg pharma lobbyists as well, fear of loss of revenue in pharmaceuticals (even if they're addictive and toxic).
